Target Says Hackers Lack Key Needed to Decrypt Stolen PIN Data

Target has admitted that PIN data was stolen during the massive breach that occurred in Target stores between Nov. 27 to Dec. 15. However, Target says the key needed to decrypt the PIN data remains secure. Target says the stolen PIN data will not be able to be decrypted without this key.

Bloomberg reports that Target spokewoman Molly Snyder said in an email statement, "We remain confident that PIN numbers are safe and secure. The PIN information was fully encrypted at the keypad, remained encrypted within our system, and remained encrypted when it was removed from our systems."

If this information is accurate it will provide some relief to people who used debit cards at Target stores during the breach period. However, everyone still needs to keep a close watch on their debit or credit card activity. Take a look:
