Walmart Will Continue Its Holiday Deals After Christmas
Reuters reports that Walmart will continue its holiday deals and discounts after Christmas.
Beginning Dec. 26, Wal-Mart will offer clearance discounts of up to 50 percent on many home holiday items and toys, besides introducing a $50 gift card with an Xbox 360 purchase and offering an eMachine netbook for $228.
Wal-Mart has already rolled out aggressive price cuts ahead of the 2009 holiday season. It is offering more than 100 toys for $10 each, and it has cut prices on highly anticipated hardcover books by 60 percent or more, igniting a price-cutting war.
On Wednesday, the company said it will also extend other previously announced deals such as its selection of top Blu-ray movies for under $20.
It isn't surprising to see Walmart continuing its discounts past the holidays. The post Christmas period has always been a time of sales and discounts. What has been unusual the past couple years have been the big December sales.

Microsoft's Project Natal Xbox 360 Add-on Could Cost $50 to $80
MCV is reporting that Microsoft's new Project Natal add-on for the Xbox 360 could priced in the $50 to $80 with a release around November, 2010. The camera add-on will allow for games where a person's body acts as the game controller. It is a direct challenge to the Wii. MCV says Microsoft plans to manufacture 5 million units.
Microsoft is planning to manufacture 5m units for day one release, with a mix of console and camera plus solus SKUs expected.
The device should cost under £50 when sold solo. One publishing source says Microsoft is "trying to get as close as possible to 'impulse buy'". Another even says the camera could even retail for just £30.
Project Natal could mark a new turning point in video games as they move away from using a controller. If you are not familiar with the Project Natal you can see a couple explanatory videos here.

Netflix to Begin Streaming Movies, TV to Playstation 3 in November
Sony and Netflix announced that they are joining forces to make movies and TV episodes from Netflix available to be streamed instantly to TVs via the PlayStation 3. Netflix expects to begin streaming via the PS3 system next month at no additional cost to Netflix members in the United States who have a PS3 system. The PS3 system's installed base has reached close to 9 million units in the United States, and Netflix recently reported 11.1 million U.S. subscribers as of September 30.
It's good news for PS3 gamers but it isn't new in the gaming world. Wired notes that Netflix has been available for the Xbox 360 gaming console for nearly a year.

Nintendo Sold Over Two Million Wiis in November
Nintendo is feeling fine this holiday season with its recession-proof Wii game console. Nintendo's Wii and Nintendo DS sold more that than 3.6 million systems in November. The Wii console sold more than 2 million in November, an all-time record for a non-December month according to the NPD Group. The Wii console has sold 15.4 million in the United States since it launched in November 2006, and Nintendo DS has sold nearly 24.6 million in the United States since it launched in November 2004. Nintendo managed these sales figures despite reports of Wii shortages.
"Nintendo's record-breaking sales demonstrate that consumers are looking for the best value not only among video games, but also among all entertainment options," said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. "Shoppers are looking for gifts that can be enjoyed by the whole family, and Nintendo provides an incomparable range of experiences that gets the whole family involved."
TechFlash and Seattle Tech Report have charts that show the Nintendo Wii crushing its competition, the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. NPD data for the month of November shows 2.04 million Wiis sold, 836,000 Xbox 360s sold and 378,000 PlayStation 3s sold. Yahoo Tech says that overall U.S. video game sales were up 10% in November compared to the year before. (via Techmeme)
