Wealth Bulletinreports that Tatsuso, an expensive Japanese restaurant located in London, is closing. The recession took its toll on the restaurant which lost business as big spenders on business accounts vanished during the economic collapse.
The closure of Tatsuso marks the end of the boom days of big expense accounts and lavish client entertainment. The restaurant was in the Broadgate development near big spenders such as trading firm Icap, UBS and Lehman Brothers (before it moved to Canary Wharf), and had a reputation for serving some of the best Japanese food in London. The average price per head was a "breathtaking" £80, according to restaurant guide Harden’s.
News of Tatsuso's closure comes a week after news that Gordon Ramsay Holdings, the eponymous restaurant group run by the high profile British chef, was only rescued from administration last year after Ramsay injected some of his own money into it.
Mehmet Arkin, the appointed liquidator, said Tatsuso had been hit by the collapse in corporate entertainment and expenses budgets, and that several City institutions had closed their credit accounts with the restaurant at the start of this year. In the six months before its closed, turnover was down 50%, he said.
Wealth Bulletin says the restaurant went into liquidation in May. It doesn't sound like the retaurant will be returning. You can see a listing for Tatsuso here.
Stephen Colbert and Tom Hanks Put Together Care Packages For The Troops
Stephen Colbert got an assist from Tom Hanks to help him put together USO care packages for the troops. Tom Hanks helped Stephen Colbert avoid the mistake of sending puppies and ice cream together because the puppies would eat the ice cream. Instead they carved an ice scuplture of a puppy eating ice cream. Other gifts included tang and trail mix, which they just poured into the boxes. Take a look:

USA Todayreports that the passengers of US Airways Flight 1549 - the miracle flight that landed in the Hudson river - are actually getting their luggage returned four months later.
Hill and other passengers never dreamed they would see their possessions again. But this month, Flight 1549 passengers are starting to get special deliveries: FedEx boxes containing dried and cleaned wallets, handbags, coats, cameras, jewelry, clothing, important papers, even toothbrushes — rescued from a watery grave.
In a large, complex effort, US Airways (LCC) has with the help of a Texas-based company spent four months recovering, sorting, cleaning and restoring 36,000 passenger belongings pulled from the plane.
Inside Hill's FedEx box were her wallet and everything in it, a Swarovski crystal bracelet Rooney gave her for Christmas, a digital camera and souvenirs including a Playbill from the Broadway showWicked.
Seeing her things again "was bittersweet, because it brought back memories," she says. Although the camera broke, "I never thought I'd get those pictures back, and they were fine."
That's amazing they are getting the luggage back and even more amazing that some of it is still in good condition. USA Today says US Airways also sent each passenger a ticket refund and a $5,000 check for expenses a few days after the crash.
Paulina Porizkova Fired From America's Next Top Model

After the last Olympics, we picked up a couple of those cool U.S. Olympic team berets: we have nearly worn them out. They're comfortable and look good, too. They also really kept our heads warm. So, of course, the first thing we thought of while watching the Opening Ceremonies this evening was where do we buy another cool hat? OK, that wasn't actually our first thought. Our first thoughts were total amazement at the guys rollerblading by with two foot flames coming out of their heads. And the fact that the U.S. Olympic team marched to The Village People's "YMCA" and Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive."
But back to the accessories. The official maker for the U.S. Olympic Team is the (unfortunately named) company called Roots. That's why everyone's hat says "Roots," to those who have written in to ask. The berets retail for USD $24.95. They come in red, white and navy blue. The store also sells t-shirts, pins, jackets, the works. Some of the items may take awhile to ship -- but it's worth it, in our opinion.
Another place to find Olympic merchandise is The Official Olympic Store. At the official store, we like the Polar Fleece Olympic Slippers -- they're just the thing to warm up your tootsies on a cold Torino morning. Even if you can't ski like Alberto Tomba, there's no reason you can't have his slippers.
Update 8-9-08: Note: If you are looking for the U.S. Olympic team hats for the 2008 Olympics please go here.
