Disney Speeds up DVD Release for Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland
Disney will be releasing the DVD for Alice in Wonderland faster than most DVDs are released. CNBC's Media Money blog reports that studios usually wait at least four months after a film is released in theatres before releasing the DVD. Disney is going to cut that buy a month and release the Alice in Wonderland DVD 13 weeks after the film appears in theatres. Disney's plans for a faster DVD release didn't come without problems. Two European theatres chains threatened a boycott and some U.S. industry insiders were concerned. Media Money says the theaters are all onboard with Disney for this film. However, theater chains will likely be unhappy if this becomes a trend and eats into box office revenues.
The position of theater chains makes sense. They are probably right that people might wait to watch a movie at home if they know the DVD will be out in two or three months. What really should be sped up is the release of television shows on DVD. There is no reason for the long delays. It takes far too long for most studios to get the latest season of a TV shows out on DVD. A lot of times the new season has started before people get a chance to watch the last season on DVD. For example, Season 2 of True Blood ended on September 13, 2009, but the Season 2 DVD will not available until May 25, 2010. That is an absurdly long delay and it really won't give people much time to watch the shows before Season 3 of True Blood airs in June.

National Jewelerreports that HBO has collaborated with designer Udi Behr for a line of jewelry inspired by the True Blood show. The pieces include necklaces, rings, cuffs and earrings. The pieces range in price from $59 to $1,295.
Behr told National Jeweler, "I had a lot of fun with [the collection]. I didn't just want to make another vampire jewelry line, and that was challenging because I wanted to really go beyond that. I looked to the spirit of the show. The show is very sexy and seductive, and it talks about eternity. I tried to capture that in what I [designed]."
You can buy the jewelry here in HBO's online shop. Brandweekreports that HBO is also looking for deals with other retailers to carry the jewelry line, such as Fred Segal.

Anna Paquin stars in HBO's steamy vampire series, True Blood, which has featured a number of nude scenes. Anna told Nylon that she doesn't think a nude body is "particularly shocking or interesting."
On her Nude Scenes: "I don't think a naked body is particularly shocking or interesting... It's not the culture I was raised in. I was not brought up in the United States. I don't share the [attitude] that you can have graphic violence, but - God forbid – you see someone's nipples."
On Going Blonde for Sookie: "I don't look like a Barbie doll, and probably never will. People are incredibly literal in how they view you. You have dark hair and pale skin? You must be brooding. The second you dye your hair blonde and get a spray tan, people treat you as if you're a bit stupider and happier. Suddenly, it's like you're hot and sexy."
On TV Acting: "It never occurred to me that one form of acting was better than another. I think if you approach your career like that you're limiting yourself to a very boring path. For me, it's about the material."
