Tim Gunn Advising Campbell's Address Your Heart Contest
Campbell's is running a contest for designers called the AdDress Your Heart design contest.
ince the classic red and white paper dress design from the 1960s, Campbell Soup Company has a rich history of stylish, creative couture. Today, the Campbell red dress has evolved to be a symbol for heart health that inspires women to live longer, healthier lives. Now, it’s your turn to help make heart health fashionable.
We're asking people across America to take inspiration from a real female heart-health hero who motivates you to AdDress Your Heart. We want you to share your story and your own red dress design that will be symbolic of a heart-healthy lifestyle. You could create what will become this year’s Campbell Red Dress and join the list of fashion designers, including Nicole Miller and Michael Vollbracht for Bill Blass, who have contributed to the collection of Campbell dresses that are synonymous with heart health.
Fashion expert Tim Gunn is listed at the adviser of this year's Campbell Red Dress challenge. Contestants entering the contest have to submit both a dress design and a 250-word heart-health hero. The judges will select three finalists' sketches and stories which will be featured on the campbellsaddressyourheart.com website starting January, 2010. Campbell's says the winning dress will be professionally produced. The winning designer and heart-health hero (if available) will be flown to New York City to walk the red carpet with Tim Gunn at the 2010 Woman's Day Red Dress Awards.

Tim Gun is going to make a cameo in the film, Sex and the City 2. E Onlinesays Tim Gunn is shooting with the SATC cast right now in New York City. Tim Gunn will play himself in the film.
A rep for Gunn confirms the cameo, which he's shooting in New York City right now!
No word yet on what the Project Runway guru will be doing in the film, but I'm told he's playing himself.
This wouldn't be the first time Gunn has been in business with Sarah Jessica Parker...
SJP appeared as a guest judge on Project Runway back in 2007 when contestants (including Christian Siriano) were given a $15 budget to create an item for her cost-conscious clothing line Bitten.
Now you have yet another reason to watch the SATC sequel when it arrives in theatres next summer.
Christian Siriano has established himself as one of the noteworthy designers since winning Project Runway in 2008. He has written an advice book that promises to help readers discover how to "look, feel, and act fierce" in everyday life. The book includes tips from Victoria Beckham, Heidi Klum, Nina Garcia and Vanessa Williams and original sketches by Christian and behind-the-scenes photos. Christiano also talks about his road to success and the obstacles he had to overcome. The book also contains a foreward from Tim Gunn.
Siriano's book is currently available on Amazon.com for $16.03. You can see a video of Christian Siriano's RTW Spring/Summer 2010 here.
Tim Gunn loves Michelle Obama's fashion sense. So when talk show host and comedienne Bonnie Hunt showed Tim photographic proof that Michelle recently wore a pair of Crocs (the footwear Tim despises most) he had to find some way to deal with his fashion icon's misstep. He decided that it was just a "footwear experiment" and she will put them aside soon. And if she doesn't, he said he might have to do his first fashion intervention, showing up at the White House and demanding to be taken to her closet. It's pretty funny, take a look:
Designer Dyed Winning Neoprene Project Runway Dress in Toilet
Talk about making it work. Peoplereports that Tim Gunn has revealed designer Ra'mon-Lawrence Coleman, dyed his winning neoprene avant garde dress from the surfwear episode (Season 6, Episode 3) in the toilet.
"What the audience didn't see is me going into the men's room, saying to Ra'mon, would you please get that neoprene thing out of the toilet? If you're going to dye it, dye it in the sink. It's more hygienic."
Apparently Ra'mon wanted a deeper basin to dye the garment, so he resorted to the deepest dish of water he had.
So how did Gunn convince him to use less murky waters? "I just said, you've got to get it out of there. Get it out. Out, out, out."
People says Tim Gunn also says the model was refusing to wear the dress, which is something they didn't show on Models of the Runway. Tim Gunn said, "It was one big hot mess, and his model was refusing to wear it because she knew it had been in the toilet. I had a showdown with her in the sewing room about how you’re a professional, this is what you have to do."
Lindsay Lohan is Appointed as Artistic Advisor for Paris Fashion House Ungaro
The fashion world was reeling today at the announcement that Lindsay Lohan had been appointed. as the artistic advisor for Paris fashion house Ungaro. Lindsay will be working with a new head designer, the relatively unknown Estrella Archs. Lindsay and Estrella are set to present their first collection in Paris on October 4 and will likely take a bow together at the end of the show.
Emanuel Ungaro sold the respected couture house in 1996 and it has been struggling financially since then. Ungaro was once a protege of legendary couturier Cristobal Balenciaga, and so many in the fashion world are horrified at the idea of the house having any connection to a Hollywood starlet who has not had the best of press lately. The house's last designer, Esteban Cortazar, reportedly quit over the idea of having to collaborate with Lindsay. But his collections weren't selling, so Ungaro went looking for a new head designer.
The CEO of Ungaro, Mounir Moufarrige, toldThe New York Times that he was aware that hiring Lindsay would shock French fashion purists who would think it was in bad taste, but said that the move is the right one for a line that is in need of "electric shock treatment." Eric Wilson of The Times tracked down Lindsay to ask her about her new job, and seemed surprised that she seemed knowledgable and exhibited such a passion for fashion. She also acknowledged that she is nervous about the project.
Ms. Lohan, in a phone interview, said she was trying not to psyche herself out by considering how the French might respond to her new role at Ungaro, or comparing herself to the designer, but she was a little nervous.
"My fashion school has just been my experience with people in fashion, working on photo shoots and creating my own style," she said. Asked how she felt about Mr. Cortazar's departure from the house, given her impending arrival, she said: "I'm not coming in to take over and take away from anyone. I'm just bringing insight to things."
She has wanted to work in fashion since she was a little girl, she said, and she follows the industry closely. She did, in fact, know that Mr. Ungaro once worked for Balenciaga.
"When I say I love fashion, I really do," she said. "I live and breathe fashion and clothing. There are so many designers I really admire and look up to. It's such a rush for me. There’s this Balmain motorcycle jacket, and when I got one of the few they made without the shoulder pads, I literally screamed. Some people might look at me like I'm crazy or like I'm psychotic, but it makes me really happy."
More to the point, Mr. Moufarrige's strategy reflects a change in fashion that is being driven by the recession. It no longer makes sense, he said, to pay a star designer a $3 million salary. Though he would not say how much he is paying Ms. Lohan, he does expect a higher dividend, given the inevitable attention her involvement will generate.
"She's a very clever person," he said. "She's not a designer. She's an artistic adviser. She gives ideas on what she would wear. And I needed to bring down the average age group of Ungaro. The average age right now is 60."
What everyone is tap dancing around here is the fact that they're worried about Lindsay's addiction problems. If she hasn't put her drug and alcohol use behind her, it will be a disaster. If she has, there's no reason in the world why she can't succeed in this new venture. She's a good actress and her first business venture into fashion -- her leggings line -- has been a success. And there's no question she looks great in the clothes. Lindsay has been given a second chance to take her career in an exciting and serious direction. It is totally up to her whether she makes the most of this amazing opportunity.
After her stint as a guest judge on Project Runway Tim Gunn had this to say about Lindsay:
"I was surprised and pleased by how extremely knowledgeable about fashion and articulate Lindsay Lohan was," he said. "She's very young and can be portrayed in ways that aren't all together flattering, and she was a true statesperson and really weighed in on the designers and what they were doing exceptionally well. And it was really a thrill to have her."
Season six of Project Runway is turning out to feature lots of great celebrity judges. Rachel Bilson joins Project Runway as a guest judge tonight for the "Rumble in the Runway" episode. Buddy TV says Tim Gunn introduces Rachel Bilson as a designer because of her Edie Rose for DKNY Jeans collection.
Tim Gunn Talks Project Runway, The Fashion Show and Being a Superhero
Tim Gunn appeared on The Daily Show With Jon Stewart to discuss the premiere of Project Runway and his new life as a Marvel comics superhero who fights crimes against fashion. Tim says it was too painful for him to watch Bravo's The Fashion Show (the channel's replacement for Project Runway), but Jon assured him that it was truly awful. Tim talks about how shocking it is for a New Yorker who is used to actual weather to live in Los Angeles. Tim is very funny, and apparently John Stewart's mother is a huge fan of Project Runway. Take a look:
Video: Tim Gunn Talks Earthquakes, Project Runway and Crimes Against Fashion
Tim Gunn appeared on The Jimmy Fallon Show to talk about the upcoming season of Project Runway and he was just as fabulous and entertaining as he always is. Tim talked about the move to Lifetime, his time in California and how he fell in love with Ralph's grocery store, which he siad is more like a grocery store museum than anything else (they don't have big supermarkets in New York City, where Tim lives). When they discussed the appropriate fit of a suit, Tim and Jimmy really bonded. In fact, Jimmy said he was noticing some chemistry between them. They then commiserated over the "greatest crime ever committed against fashion: Crocs." Take a look:
Here's a preview for Project Runway Season Six, which is now finally less than a month away. You can see the contestant's bios here. Tim Gunn said somebody made something that looks like roadkill. He also says at one point during season six, "I am about to lose it." Take a look:
Lifetime Launches Project Runway Site and Designer Bios For Season Six
Lifetime has kicked off a Project Runway website as it gears up for the launch of the long-awaited Season 6 on Thursday, August 20, at 10 PM ET/PT. The website includes bios on the sixteen competing designers as well as designer portfolios. The site also contains a blog, which has started posting introductory videos for each designer. As we mentioned before, Project Runway is also on Twitter.
There is also a ProjectRunway.com website that sells Project Runway items including shirts, mugs, sewing machines and Tim Gunn Bobblehead Dolls.
Project Runway has joined Twitter. You can follow the official Project Runway Twitter account here. For some odd reason it looks like they are following the fake Tim Gunn account. Maybe they got punked.
Project Runway season 6 is finally just a couple months away. The series debuts August 20th on Lifetime.
Tim Gunn Apparel Line Could Happen Says Liz Claiborne CEO
Reuters reports that they asked Liz Claiborne CEO William McComb if a Tim Gunn apparel line could ever happen. McComb said there could be a Tim Gunn line someday, but did not give a time frame.
"I do, and obviously we would be the ones to do it," responded McComb.
The strength of Gunn - who skyrocketed to fame through television’s popular "Project Runway" reality series - is his impeccable eye, McComb said.
"Tim is not a designer. He does not design. What he would bring to the table is the common sense edit of how to build a wardrobe," said McComb.
"He could do the black dress, the white top, the work pants ... it would be not necessarily high faloutin' fashion, but really smart."
McComb also told Reuters that Tim Gunn and Isaac Mizrahi will never clash because the two are very good friends and knew each other from Parsons. They both seem too professional for that anyway. Although we would like to hear a conversation between the two of them about their competiting fashion reality tv shows.
Reuters has a longer piece and video from its interview with Liz Claiborne CEO William McComb here.
Tim Gunn and Heidi Klum Talk Project Runway Upcoming Season
Entertainment Weekly has a big feature on the return of Project Runway.
Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn talk about the move to Los Angeles and the exciting challenges ahead.
The first challenge was tackling the logistics of moving from pedestrian-friendly New York City to car-centric Los Angeles. To avoid wasting precious sewing time in traffic, Murray and Rea set up base camp in the city's remote downtown area, making sure key locales — like the sewing room at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising — were within walking distance of the Los Angeles Center Studios' soundstage. Mood Fabrics, which has supplied designers with their materials for five seasons, even opened up a temporary, Runway-only satellite location of their L.A. store near the show's headquarters. Shooting in star-studded Los Angeles, meanwhile, provided a bonanza of celebrity guest judges, including Christina Aguilera, Eva Longoria Parker, and Lindsay Lohan. It also helped inspire an entirely fresh crop of challenges. "L.A. can be the most laid-back and the most glamorous," hints judge Michael Kors. "It's the land of bikinis and gowns." Fittingly, this season the designers will take on challenges centered on the beach and the red carpet. They'll also create garments as a tribute to movies and Hollywood.
*****
Miraculously, in this age of Internet spoilers, the identities of the 16 contestants have remained a secret all this time. At the season ender, which taped in February at Manhattan's Bryant Park, the three finalists hid backstage and sent their collections down the runway anonymously. Though photos of the garments are widely available on the Web, the producers and judges aren't worried about viewers figuring out the winner after a handful of episodes. "Somebody might start as the weaker designer," says Garcia, "but they come back as a dark horse and wow you. It's even sometimes a surprise to us." Either way, viewers are still likely to get their dose of seam-popping drama. "We have a challenge, the outcome of which will have the blogs going crazy!" says Gunn. "I'm surprised I didn't need CPR when it all came down the runway, because I'm still in such a state of shock about it."
We're so glad that Mood fabrics has decided to open a store in Los Angeles just for the show. We've been watching Bravo's replacement for Project Runway, called The Fashion Show. The show stars Isaac Mizrahi and Kelly Rowland and we're enjoying it. But one thing we miss is contestants fighting over huge bolts of chiffon at Mood while Tim tells them to hurry up. We also don't like the fact that Isaac isn't allowed to mentor the contestants when he goes back to talk to them during a challenge, because he's also a judge. He so clearly wants to explain where they're going wrong and we really want to hear what he has to say. Kelly Rowland is so clearly biting her tongue most of the time that we wish she was allowed to speak freely.
But back to Project Runway. The next season debuts on the Lifetime channel on August 20th. How in the world are we supposed to wait that long for the premiere?
Marvel Entertainment is going to be launching a new comic book series just in time for New York Fashion Week. The comic book series, called Models Inc., will debut on August 26th. The New York Timessays that in the second story of the debut issue Tim Gunn will wear an Iron Man suit to save a fashion exhibit from villains.
But what would the angels be without someone to guide them? Enter Tim Gunn of "Project Runway." In the debut issue's second story, Mr. Gunn becomes an action figure - jumping into Iron Man's suit of armor to save a fashion exhibition from evildoers.
It's certainly a departure from Mr. Gunn's usual role as a mentor to aspiring designers, but there is a connection. Mr. Gunn said he remembered comic books with Millicent, who first appeared in 1945. She was a comic romantic figure, who worked as a model for the Hanover agency.
Mr. Gunn will grace one version of the first cover of "Models Inc.," drawn by Phil Jimenez, a popular comic book artist who also illustrated the cover of "Amazing Spider-Man" No. 583, which paired Spidey with President Obama. A sales analysis on the Beat, the comic blog of Publishers Weekly, estimated that more than 520,000 copies of the issue were sold.
Tim Gunn said, "I'm not certain of the particulars of how I'll be portrayed, but I’m really excited about it. To say I'm a character in a comic book is wild!"
Killahbeez and Newsarama have more details on this new 4-issue comic book series from Marvel Entertainment.
