Video: Tim Burton and Helena Bonham Carter at French Premiere of Alice in Wonderland
Director Tim Burton and his wife Helena Bonham Carter walked the red carpet at the French premiere of Alice in Wonderland. Helena said she usually doesn't like watching herself onscreen, but she didn't mind this time because her head made to look so large for playing The Red Queen. Tim noted that he never knows whether a film will be a hit or a bomb, and he is quite happy that this one is a hit. The film has already made $436,393,542 worldwide. Take a look:
Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland is a huge hit for Walt Disney. Alice in Wonderland made over $116 million over the weekend making it the biggest March opening ever. It is also Disney's biggest 3-D hit. Take a look:
Alice in Wonderland was followed by Brooklyn's Finest, which opened with a small box office take of around $13 million. Shutter Island finished third - its box office tally is now approaching the $100 million mark. Shutter Island was followed by Cop Out and Avatar. Disney Speeds up DVD Release for Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland
Disney will be releasing the DVD for Alice in Wonderland faster than most DVDs are released. CNBC's Media Money blog reports that studios usually wait at least four months after a film is released in theatres before releasing the DVD. Disney is going to cut that buy a month and release the Alice in Wonderland DVD 13 weeks after the film appears in theatres. Disney's plans for a faster DVD release didn't come without problems. Two European theatres chains threatened a boycott and some U.S. industry insiders were concerned. Media Money says the theaters are all onboard with Disney for this film. However, theater chains will likely be unhappy if this becomes a trend and eats into box office revenues.
The position of theater chains makes sense. They are probably right that people might wait to watch a movie at home if they know the DVD will be out in two or three months. What really should be sped up is the release of television shows on DVD. There is no reason for the long delays. It takes far too long for most studios to get the latest season of a TV shows out on DVD. A lot of times the new season has started before people get a chance to watch the last season on DVD. For example, Season 2 of True Blood ended on September 13, 2009, but the Season 2 DVD will not available until May 25, 2010. That is an absurdly long delay and it really won't give people much time to watch the shows before Season 3 of True Blood airs in June.
The stars came out for the rainy London premiere of Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland. Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway, and Mia Wasikowska talked about how excited they were about the film. Take a look:

"It has been Burton-ized" is how producer Richard Zanuck describes the director's vision of the Lewis Carroll classic. Many elements are familiar, from the enigmatic Caterpillar (Alan Rickman) to the fierce Jabberwock (Christopher Lee). But none has been presented in this sort of visually surreal fashion.
"We finished shooting in December after only 40 days," Zanuck says. Now the live action is being merged with CG animation and motion-capture creatures, and then transferred into 3-D.
The traditional tale has been freshened with a blast of girl power, courtesy of writer Linda Woolverton (Beauty and the Beast). Alice, 17, attends a party at a Victorian estate only to find she is about to be proposed to in front of hundreds of snooty society types. Off she runs, following a white rabbit into a hole and ending up in Wonderland, a place she visited 10 years before yet doesn't remember.
