Transformers 2 Storms Into Theatres With Record Opening
Variety reports that Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen had a massive first day opening of $60.6 million. It was the best opening day ever for a Wednesday release. It was the second best opening day - only The Dark Knight's $67.2 million opening is higher.
Previous record-holder was "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix," which grossed $44.2 million when opening on a Wednesday in July 2007.
"Transformer 2's" opening day haul also is the second best of all time after "The Dark Knight," which grossed $67.2 million on its first day in release (a Friday).
The big opening day for Transformers 2 was helped by strong midnight showings. The film made $16 million from the midnight shows. Transformers 2 is playing in over 4,200 theatres so this gives it a good shot according to Variety of surpassing the $152.4 million earned by Spider-Man 2 in its first five days.

Stephen Colbert Meets Spider-man
Stephen Colbert will join forces with Spider-man to save the world.
Colbert, the master parodist of Comedy Central, shares an eight-page adventure with the world-famous web-slinger in issue No. 573 of "The Amazing Spider-Man," on sale Oct. 15. The folks at Marvel sent over a page from the story and while I can't quite tell what's going on, it's pretty clear that Colbert actually takes to the rooftops of Manhattan with the arachnid hero.
Colbert and his name have been popping up a lot in Marvel pages lately (perhaps too much, actually), following the January announcement by the company's editor-in-chief Joe Quesada that Colbert's faux campaign for president in our world would be mirrored by a genuine bid for the White House within the Marvel universe. The references have been scattered in different issues (a cameo here, a campaign poster there, some T-shirts, etc.) but nothing quite as dramatic as this.
This is a dream come true for Colbert, no question. To actually swing with Spider-man, well, it doesn't get any better than that for a true fanboy.

An NRF Holiday survey has found that people shopping for boys are
most interested in video games, spiderman merchandise and remote control toys. Topping
wish lists of people buying for girls were Barbie merchandise (21.7%),
though many parents will also be hunting for Bratz dolls (16.5%). Other popular toys for
girls include video games, Leap Frog, Dora the Explorer, Care Bears,
and Cabbage Patch Kids. Nearly one in five people (19.9%) purchasing a gift for a boy this year will be searching for a video game. The survey also indicated that Spiderman merchandise will be in high demand (8.9%) with remote control toys, cars, trucks, and Hot Wheels following closely behind.

Some of the most popular toys are coming are for the blockbuster films Spider-Man 2, Harry Potter and
Shrek. Some of these toys include the Triple Action Web Blaster, which fires silly string like Spiderman fires his web; Harry Potter Championship Quidditch, a small plastic version of the popular game from the books and movies; and the Shrek Wise Crackin’ Donkey, a stuffed toy that responds to verbal commands.
