Selena Gomez is launching
her own fashion line. Selena has no design experience, so she is teaming up with Tony Melillo, who formerly designed for Generra and who has his own menswear line and industry veteran Sandra Campos, who has worked for Polo Ralph Lauren and Nautica. WWD reports:
Melillo and Campos had just started their own licensing and brand building firm to develop and market global lifestyle labels specifically for celebrities. That company, called Cynosure Holdings, was already speaking with CAA clients when they came across Gomez.
"She has such a good sense of what she likes and what she doesn't like," said Melillo, who is the creative director for the Dream Out Loud by Selena Gomez line. "It was surprising as I've never worked with someone so young, and never really expected her to be that smart. She has a desire to be involved, and nothing is sent out there without her approval. It's nice to see her have this genuine interest."
And, Gomez said, she has been quite picky about every detail.
"When I met Tony and Sandra, I was instantly comfortable with them and now they are like family to me," she said. "They are so creative and I love how I can just call them up whenever and talk to them about everything, even if it's just about changing a button. They've been so cool about everything."
The line is described as bohemian and will launch in fall 2010. It will be called Dream Out Loud by Selena Gomez.

Selena Gomez is Disney's Next Big Star, as Miley Changes Her Image
Now that Miley Cyrus -- who is only 16 -- is posing for Elle and changing her image with her new album, Disney needs a new innocent-looking star for its tween fans. Selena Gomez is the one Disney is backing. Selena is actually 17, her image is much more wholesome than Miley's. Selena has a huge following and analysts think that she's the next superstar to come out of the Disney machine. The Wall Street Journal reports:

Rising young Disney star Selena Gomez, who stars in the The Wizards of Waverly Place, is on the cover of the April issue of Latina magazine. In the accompanying interview, Selena talks about being a teen celebrity and how she admires Britney Spears, saying:
"I always wanted this to be my life but I don't want it to live my life for me...."In a way, Britney can be someone to look up to. She was constantly being looked at and picked on, and it's starting to happen to me. At the moment, I don't have anything good they can pick on me with, but they'll find something. Maybe I can be as strong."
She also talks about being proud of her heritage: "I didn't even realize what a big deal it was to be Latin at first. But then one day being with my dad, it hit me: it's pretty neat to be Mexican. And there aren't enough Latinas in Hollywood—or there are, but they don’t get the recognition. So to be able to come out here and use that, it's really a powerful thing."
As for the rumored feud with Miley Cyrus, Selena dismisses it, saying,
"I think Miley can agree with me. There are so many more things going on that are so much more important to us in our lives than wasting time on that stuff."
