Zach Galifianakis got off to a great start on Saturday Night Live with his opening monologue. Zach just did his thing, eventually moving to the piano to accompany himself as he talked about his life. Sample: "My girlfriend looks a little bit like Charlize Theron....and a lot like Dog the Bounty Hunter." Take a look:
Zach Galifianakis hosted Saturday Night Live last night, which made for an odd and yet mostly funny show. In this skit, Gus crashes a number of NBC shows, from The NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams to Law and Order. Take a look:
Jennifer Lopez was the host and musical guest on Saturday Night Live last night. In this very funny opening skit, the cast gets a chance to do their wildest celebrity imitations as they spoof the "We are the World Disaster" recording session. Jennifer does an excellent impersonation of Rihanna, Kristen Wiig nailed the Gwen Stefani bit and Jason Sudeikis' screeching Adam Lambert was hilarious. Take a look:
SNL Video: Cialis for Threeways Starring Ashton Kutcher
Ashton Kutcher hosted Saturday Night Live last night and his comic skills were put to very good use in this funny spoof ad for "Cialis for Threeways." The drug is just like the original, but is 50% stronger, "just in case the rare opportunity arises." It also has a nice anti-depressant kicker to alleviate the shame and guilt the next morning. Last night Saturday Night Live did a skit all about the USA Network hit Burn Notice. The game show is entitled "What is Burn Notice" and the contestants try to guess what the show is about. The producers of Burn Notice were not thrilled with the jab and fired back on Twitter saying "Ahhh...remember the days when SNL was actually funny? At
least we got a free commercial -- thanks SNL! :)" Here's the skit:
We love Burn Notice. The show's set up is explained at the beginning of every episode: Michael Weston (Jeffrey Donovan) is a spy that got burned and he's stuck in Miami trying to clear his name and get his old job back. In the meantime he helps people in need, assisted by his ex-girlfriend (Gabrielle Anwar) and old buddy, an ex-Navy SEAL played by the hilarious Bruce Campbell. Sharon Gless plays Michael's mom.
NBC and USA Network are owned by the same network, but this doesn't look like cross-promotion to us. The skit wasn't really funny -- in fact it didn't make a lot of sense. It was just kind of snarky. As for Burn Notice? It just got renewed for a fourth season, which will air later in 2010.
SNL Skit: President Obama's State of the Union Speech
Saturday Night Live took aim at Barack Obama's State of the Union speech. Fred Armisen played Obama with Jason Sudeikis as Joe Biden and Kristen Wiig as Nancy Pelosi. Using some clever editing, the camera showed thrilled Democrats and furious Republicans responding to various parts of the speech.
First, Armisen took apart the pathetic campaigning skills of Martha Coakley, who managed to lose Ted Kennedy's senate seat to Republican Scott Brown.
"Our nominee Martha Coakley was single most incompetent candidate ever to seek public office in this nation's history....
Martha Coakley, you are a disgrace. You couldn't beat Dick Cheney for mayor of Berkeley."
Armisen announced that he was ending the ban on gays in the military, which would "create 30,000 new jobs, as well as two new series on Bravo."
As for health care, Armisen threw in the towel saying: "To be honest, I could either way on that. If you want it, pass it. Whatever, I'll sign it. It's your call. I really don't care." The writing was vastly improved on SNL this past weekend. Let's hope they keep it up. Take a look:
SNL Video: Jon Hamm and Michael Buble Open a Restaurant
In this skit from last night's
Saturday Night Live, Jon Hamm and singer Michael Buble publicize their new restaurant, Hamm and Buble, which features fine dining, champagne and lots of ham. Take a look:
Jon Hamm hosted Saturday Night Live last night. In this skit, Jon plays new Republican senator Scott Brown -- you know the nice looking senator who once posed naked for Cosmopolitan? Scott Brown has the top Democratic leadership quite distracted. Take a look:
Saturday Night Live took aim at the NBC light night mess in its opening skit. The impressions of Leno, Conan and Letterman aren't bad, but what in the world has happened to the writing on this show? This should have been a hilarious skit, but it's not. Take a look:
Sigourney Weaver is hosting Saturday Night Live tonight with musical guest The Ting Tings. In these promos, Sigourney and Bill Hader get their silly on. Take a look:
James Franco is hosting Saturday Night Live this weekend. In these promos James and Kenan Thompson discuss secret Santas and the perfect gift. SNL has been so awful this season that we're actually kind of scared to tune in to see what they do to James Franco, but you know we will. Take a look:
Because Blake Lively was hosting we were expecting a Gossip Girl skit. Well, we got one. Sort of. This is a Gossip Girl spinoff set on Staten Island. It's painful to watch. Time for some new writers. Take a look:
Blake Lively hosted Saturday Night Live last night. She looked fabulous and gave it her best shot. Unfortunately the writing was so bad we just couldn't watch the entire show. It sort of took the phrase "not funny" to a whole new low. Here's Blake's monologue with lots of Muppet action. Take a look:
Video: Blake Lively and Andy Samberg Promos for SNL
Blake Lively is hosting Saturday Night Live this weekend. Will they do a skit this weekend about how obsessed people are with Blake's hair? Here are two promos Blake and Andy Samberg did for the show. Take a look:
