Sandra Lee to Premier New Budget Meals Show on the Food Network
 Sandra Lee is getting a new show on The Food Network. Sandra is the host of Semi-Homemade, the cooking show that uses 30% fresh ingredients and 70% prepared foods. The target is the busy cook who doesn't have time to cook from scratch. The show Semi-Homemade has excellent ratings and Sandra has a multi-million dollar empire, with cookbooks, videos and other products. The very mention of her way of cooking (she defends Cool Whip and Cheez-Whiz) is enough to send Anthony Bourdain off on a rant about how her cooking point of view heralds the end of civilization as we know it. But Sandra speaks to women who already cook this way to save time and money.
Sandra has a very interesting story. She was the eldest of five children with a very ill mother. Sandra took over all the cooking, cleaning and child-rearing when she was only nine years old. The family was on welfare and food stamps. She managed to go to college and start a home furnishings line which she sold at local fairs, before she was spotted by QVC. There was no stopping her after that. A two week stint at the Cordon Bleu in Canada convinced her that the home cook needed a different, simpler approach to cooking.
Sandra is an astute business woman who really knows how to stretch a dollar. So, not surprisingly, her new show will be called Sandra's Money Saving Meals. The show will premiere
May 10th at 12pm ET/PT on the Food Network. Just don't tell Anthony Bourdain.
