Kate Winslet returns to the Oscar red carpet after her win for Best Actress last year. Kate looked beautiful and elegant in a silver and champagne gown by Yves Saint Laurent which featured a sculptured bodice and flowing satin skirt with a small slit up the front. Kate wore her hair down in a sleek side part. She accessorized her look with a $2.5 million yellow diamond custom-made necklace, 10-carat yellow diamond drop earrings and yellow diamond bracelets, all by Tiffany & Co. Kate carried a silver satin clutch.
Helen Mirren, who was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress for her role as Leo Tolstoy's wife in The Last Station, pulled off yet another perfect red carpet look. She wore a gray Badgley Mischka gown which featured a silver sequined sheer silk tulle overlay and a flared hem. Helen accessorized her look with a showstopping Oval Shape Diamond Necklace with 125 carats of diamonds, a Fancy and Rose-Cut Diamond Cuff, and 9 carat Diamond Pear-Shape Drop Earrings, all by Chopard.
Elizabeth Banks presented the Academy's Scientific and Technical Awards and gave a summation of that event at the Oscars. Elizabeth wore a gray chiffon gown by Atelier Versace which featured a strapless fitted bodice with crystal embellishments, intricate pleating, a front slit and a luxurious chiffon ruffled train. Elizabeth accessorized the look with a 19th-century sapphire and diamond cluster ring, a blackened diamond headband and 19th-century diamond flower ear clips, all by Fred Leighton. She carried a dark grey snakeskin and silver minaudiere by Ferragamo and wore Sergio Rossi grey suede platform sandals with crystal embellishments.
Julianne Moore looked gorgeous at the Academy Awards, where she introduced her Single Man costar Colin Firth as a Best Actor nominee. Julianne wore a custom beaded platinum gown by Francisco Costa for Calvin Klein Collection. She accessorized the look with jewelry by Bulgari, for which she is the spokesperson. She wore two 1930s era diamond and platinum bracelets from Bulgari's Historical Archives, and three diamond and platinum bracelets from Bulgari's High Jewelry Collection. She also wore a stunning 22 carat emerald ring, also by Bulgari. She wore her hair down in a sleek side part.
Maggie Gyllenhaal was nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Crazy Heart. Maggie walked the red carpet in a one shoulder column gown by Dries Van Noten, which had just been shown on the runways in Paris the week before the Oscars. The hand-painted, floral silk fabric was beautiful, although it appears to crease quite easily. You almost never see prints at the Oscars, but this year both Maggie and Rachel McAdams both wore print gowns. Maggie's gown fit with her indie style and she has the figure to pull off the look.
To keep the gown from looking a bit too informal for the Oscars, Maggie turned up the wattage with the jewelry. She wore vintage ivory and diamond calla lily pendant earrings, a vintage 18k yellow gold and diamond bracelet,
and a vintage platinum and diamond bracelet with emerald and sapphire brooch, all by Fred Leighton. She also wore a Jennifer Behr custom-made jet crystal hair ornament.
Kristen Stewart made her debut appearance on the red carpet at the Oscars and she looked beautiful. Kristen wore a stunning custom-made navy blue Monique Lhuillier gown with a trumpet skirt and train. We just love navy blue and you don't see it very often on the red carpet. Kristen accessorized the look with an H. Stern 18k white gold Marquis diamond bracelet which retails for $224,000. Kristen wore a smokey eye with heavy liner and a pale lip. She wore her hair in a textured updo. Her publicist rushed her by the press, including the L.A. Times, which the journalists understandably weren't too happy about. Here she is -- briefly -- on the red carpet, with a big smile and a wave.
At the Oscars Queen Latifah introduced a clip for the Governor's Award ceremony that honored achievements, exceptional contributions to Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and outstanding service to the Academy. Queen
hit a fashion home run with her figure-hugging violet, custom-made gown from Badgley Mischka. The one shoulder gown featured a jewel-encrusted band which wrapped around the bustline and strap, which was very flattering.
Queen accessorized the look with huge drop earrings which contained diamonds, South Sea pearls and pink sapphires by Chopard.
We thought her subtle makeup was really beautiful. Queen, who is the face of CoverGirl Cosmetics, wore CoverGirl's Lash Blast mascara, Covergirl Queen Collection Natural Hue Liquid Makeup in Warm Caramel and Covergirl Queen Collection Natural Hue Minerals Pressed Powder in Brown Bronze. Her smokey eye was balanced perfectly by her pale lipstick, which was a mixture of MAC lipstick in Midimauve, Kevyn Aucoin's Flesh Tone Lip Pencil in Deep and Covergirl ShineBlast Lip Gloss in Aglow.
2010 Oscar Fashions: Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick
Sarah Jessica Parker made a bold fashion statement at the Oscars with a gorgeous Chanel Haute Couture pale yellow gown, which featured delicate silver embroidery at the neck and a very dramatic back. She was channeling Maria Callas with the fabulous, oversized bun which looked quite elegant with the column shape of the gown. Sarah Jessica accessorized her fashion forward look with vintage 1950's stacked platinum and diamond bracelets and a 9-carat cushion-cut diamond ring, all by Fred Leighton. Her husband Matthew Broderick is wearing a single-breasted black tuxedo by Tom Ford.
You can see a great photo of the back of Sarah Jessica's gown here.
Anna Kendrick, who was nominated for a Best Supporting Actress Oscar, had to change dresses at the last minute before the big event. She told Ryan Seacrest that the original gown didn't work out, but she tactfully did not mention whose dress she rejected. Instead she wore a blush draped chiffon gown by Elie Saab Haute Couture. Anna accessorized the look with a Diamond Oval Motif Bracelet, Diamond Pendant, and a Diamond Web Ring, all by Kwiat. She carried a crystal clutch by Judith Lieber and wore heels by Sergio Rossi. Anna looked very pretty: the color of the perfectly set off her flawless skin and dark hair.
Vera Farmiga, who was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her work in Up in the Air, chose a bold magenta, strapless Marchesa gown which featured fan pleats. The fan pleats are beautiful and it's a lot of dress, but we think Vera pulled it off nicely. Vera accessorized with fabulous vintage diamond jewelery from Fred Leighton, including 1920's Diamond Ear Clips, a 1960's Diamond Cluster Cocktail Ring and a Diamond Leaf Brooch in her hair.
Gabourey Sidibe, who was nominated for Best Actress for her performance
in Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire, looked fabulous in a custom made, draped royal blue Marchesa gown which featured embroidered crystal embellishments. Gaby accessorized her look with a diamond bracelet and ring by Lorraine Schwartz. Gaby was hilarious during her red carpet interview with Ryan Seacrest. When Ryan asked about her dress, she told the E! camera crew to "snap to it" and get a full length shot of her. She then declared that "If fashion were porn, this dress is the money shot," which totally shocked -- and cracked up -- Ryan. She toned it down for ABC though, sticking to mild pleasantries when Kathy Ireland asked her a few questions.
And speaking of Kathy Ireland, what in the world was she doing working the pre-show? Sherri Shepherd with Jess Cagle know their stuff and did just fine (although we really missed Tim Gunn this year), but Kathy's performance was a disaster. Her interview style was so loud, jarring and generally over the top that we couldn't believe we were watching the official Oscar pre-show. Heads need to roll over that piece of stunt casting.
Tina Fey rebounded from her Golden Globes Zac Posen sartorial disaster with a stunning black, one-shoulder, sequined Michael Kors gown that really flattered her figure. Tina accessorized with an onyx and diamond ring and onyx and diamond drop earrings by Stephen Russell. She carried a clutch by Kotur and wore Jimmy Choo heels. This was a great night for Project Runway: Chris March designed Meryl Streep's gown and Michael Kors rescued Tina Fey from the Golden Globes worst dressed list. Well, he and the editors of Vogue, who styled Tina for the red carpet.
Meryl Streep, who was nominated for a Best Actress Oscar, looked fabulous in her white, v-necked gown created for her by Chris March. Chris, who was one of our favorite contestants on Project Runway, also designed Meryl's black belted gown that she wore to the Golden Globes. Meryl accessorized her Oscar look the look with zebra-striped diamond bracelets, a diamond ring and diamond earrings, all by Fred Leighton, and a clutch by Swarovski. Meryl's updo and her makeup were just perfect: she looked beautiful. Her shoes were fab too; she wore silver platform heels.
Best Actress nominee Carey Mulligan chose a black Prada gown with an asymmetrical hemline for her first walk down the red carpet. If you look closely at the gown, you'll see that the gown is embellished with Swarovski crystals, as well as miniature corkscrews, watch gears, scissors, forks and knives. It's a very clever twist on a classic gown that makes it quite youthful and fun. You may recall that Carey said Anna Wintour advised her to wear a short gown to the Oscars, but she refused saying that when she was a little girl that wasn't how she pictured herself walking down the red carpet, which is a hilarious thing to say to Anna. Here is the detail on the dress:
We weren't really feeling the black satin ankle strap shoes, which were also by Prada. The heavy straps interrupted the lovely long line of her legs. But it's a minor quibble: she looked great. Carey accessorized her look with a black satin Prada clutch and huge vintage diamond chandelier earrings by Fred Leighton.
We just loved Sandra Bullock's gown that she wore to the Oscars. The Best Actress winner looked stunning in a perfectly fitted Marchesa gown which featured cap sleeves, intricate beading and embroidery and a train.
Sandra wore her hair down in a sleek side part, which is not a hairdo she usually wears; it was very old school Hollywood glam and it really worked. She wore subtle makeup with a pop of fuschia lipstick, which we adored. Sandy didn't borrow any jewels last night: she wore her own Neil Lane diamond earrings and diamond bracelet.
