Leanne's Winning Project Runway Dress On Sale Now
In this week's Project Runway, the contestants had to create a look inspired by the fall collection of guest judge and fashion designer Diane Von Furstenberg. The look also had to be inspired by the screen sirens of the 1940s: the kind of women who traveled the world and did a little spying on the side.
Leanne Marshall won the challenge with a gorgeous silk gown, which is being sold online at DVF.com exclusively to American Express Cardmembers. You can purchase the gown for $650 here, but you must have an American Express card to get one. The sales will benefit the CFDA Foundation.
Leeanne is an amazing talent and currently she's in the lead, we think.

Project Runway Returns This Week
Project Runway returns this Wednesday night, but you
wouldn't know it from any major advertising for the show. EW thinks it knows why:
But do people even know to tune in? In past years, the lead-up to a new cycle of Runway came with an onslaught of publicity: constant on-air promos, posters and billboards every which way you turn, and print ads galore. But this time, there's been a noticeable dearth of promotion for Bravo's No. 1 show. Sure, there have been television commercials and the occasional print announcement, but the usual plastering of New York City buses and subways, for instance, has been suspiciously absent.
*****
Some people suspect that Bravo is trying to sabotage the show before it heads to Lifetime next season -- a way of getting back at producer Harvey Weinstein for taking away their banner hit. A source at Bravo called that theory "ridiculous," and added, "Why wouldn't we want Runway to do well on our network?"
Bravo says it's just trying to preserve the anonymity of the contestants, but that makes no sense. They could just do big billboards with Heidi and Time. Or the past winners. Or the past villains and ask "who will be the contestant you'll love to hate?" There are a million ways to promote the show without revealing who the contestants are. Billboards or not, we'll be tuning in Wednesday night.

Project Runway Moving to Lifetime
Red Alert, Project Runway fans! The fab reality show is moving
to Lifetime, which has offered the show's producers more money to make the channel switch. NBC Universal, which owns Bravo, is going to sue to stop the move.
Lifetime announced today that it has picked up the hit Bravo series Project Runway and will begin airing the series' sixth cycle, which debuts in November. In a statement, The Weinstein Co., which produces the show with executive producers Dan Cutforth and Jane Lipsitz of Magical Elves, announced that it entered a five-year deal for the show with Lifetime -- a development that prompted legal action by NBC/Universal. In the same statement, the Weinstein Co. acknowledged that NBC filed a lawsuit today in New York Supreme Court in an attempt to block the series from moving to Lifetime. "We believe that this lawsuit is without merit. While good for the market for lawyers, it is always unfortunate when parties try to win in court what they have lost in the marketplace," said David Boies, counsel to The Weinstein Co.
The NBC/Universal lawsuit asserts that the company had been negotiating with The Weinstein Co. for a year to obtain additional installments of Runway but the production company "never intended to negotiate in good faith." It goes on to say, "Instead, The Weinstein Co. threatened to take future cycles of the program to a competing TV network unless [NBC] agreed to pay many millions of additional dollars to Weinstein to acquire a 'package' that included TV rights to second-tier Weinstein films unrelated to Runway." The Weinstein Co. was contractually obligated to give the NBC-owned Bravo the right of first refusal when it got the offer from Lifetime, says the suit.
Weinstein has already begun pre-production of Runway’s fifth season for Bravo, which is scheduled to air in June.
NBC released this statement today: "NBC Universal has continuing legal rights related to Project Runway, including a right of first refusal to future cycles of the series, which The Weinstein Company unfortunately has refused to honor. NBC Universal regrettably had no alternative but to bring legal action to enforce its rights to this program, including the right to decide whether it is in the best interest of the company to continue to air the show under the proposed financial terms."
So what's this all about? Money, of course! A source told Entertainment Weekly that Lifetime offered the Weisteins more money to move. We have no idea what the contracts say, but it's going to be hard to stop the Weinsteins and Magical Elves from moving their runway magic over to Lifetime if the original contract was already up.
All we have to say is this: Tim Gunn better go with the show or we will show you the meaning of furious tranny fierceness at her most bitchy. And it won't be pretty.

Christian Wins Project Runway
Christian Siriano just won Project Runway and we have to say he deserved it. His collection was very British, very fashion-forward and had lovely details. The guest judge, Victoria Beckham, thought it was "may-jah" and it was -- majorly fierce. She said she'd wear everything in the collection and it would be an honor to do so (Christian about passed out in excitement at that). In fact we thought our beloved Posh was going to rush the runway and grab the outfit off the model.
She made sure to re-affirm that she would set things up so she could wear one of his outfits, which is pretty cool.
Rami had an uneven collection. We didn't care for his color palette -- neither did Michael Kors. His day looks didn't work for us. His evening wear was absolutely stunning, but they never pick the evening wear designer on this show. Remember Austin Scarlett? Remember Laura, who had one of the sublime evening collections we've seen? All hand-beading and sophisticated, dramatic looks? No win for her.
Jillian was surprisingly good. Her collection was like a fashion forward, funky Ralph Lauren collection (she worked at Ralph Lauren). It was well-tailored, yet funky and fresh. Kors loved her knitwear, but Nina Garcia thought she hadn't found her "look." We think Jillian did better than Rami, overall. She had two pleated gorgeous evening looks, as well as day wear.
But this is Christian's time and he really is a talent.
It's all over now, alas. But next up is Top Chef -- which premiers in the same timeslot next Wednesday night on Bravo.

Project Runway Meets the WWE
Last night's Project Runway was just stupendous. The designers had to create outfits for the WWE Divas (that's World Wrestling Entertainment for those who don't know a chokehold from an artichoke). It really was a challenge tailor made for costume designer Chris March who is one of our favorites from this season.
Michael Kors and Nina Garcia looked sort of shocked at having to judge between sexy wrestling outfits. An early clue that this was a Challenge of the Tackiest Outfit was when they all trooped off to the House of Spandex instead of Mood to buy the material. Michael said he was totally out of his element; he felt like the Pope at a sex club.
Chris March won with his green leopard outfit with a groovy capelet lined with black sequins. It was really fierce, to quote Christian's favorite adjective. Christian did quite well with a Prince-inspired leather and lace outfit. But the second place went to Ralph Lauren designer Jillian who created this "girl next door in booty shorts and thigh highs" look.
The guest judges were Richie Rich and Trevor Raines of Heatherette and they just loved the competition. They weren't in the least bit intimidated by a) the spandex b) the fake boobs or c) the amazing muscle tone of the Divas. We're going to studiously avoid spoilers on the Web, because the finalists are showing at fashion week and we don't want to know who is in the finals till it airs on the show.

Project Runway Season 4 is Off to a Great Start
The season four opener of Project Runway was excellent. Heidi looked fabulous and sounded like Minnie Mouse on the location shoots, Tim Gunn was adorably unflappable and the new contestants appear to be the most qualified group yet. This year's resident loony is the Accidental Designer named Elisa Jimenez and she really brings the crazy. Her dress for the first challenge -- which was to be something that really shows who you are as a designer -- was a skin-tight, powder-blue mermaid gown with an eight foot train of random, colored material that was just tacked onto the bottom of the back of the skirt. Heidi said "Elisa's model looked like she was pooing fabric" which was pretty much dead on.
When asked to describe her inspiration, Elisa took off into a flight of incomprehensible chatter.
"I wanted something that would be sylph-like, you know, aerial, water, air....Going for, like, a haiku of a cut - just very simple, but beautiful, like swoooooooshtp! Then this cascade of, like, pwaaaaaat! coming out the back." Guest judge and designer Monique Lhuillier cut to the chase: "I don't know anyone in their right mind who would wear the dress the way it is."
But did the Rain Goddess Woman (as another contestant dubbed Elisa) get booted off the runway? No! Instead Simone LeBlanc was kicked off the runway for her poorly-constructed gown and jacket combo that looked terrible together.
Michael Kors asked the model to take the jacket off so he could see the top of the gown. When she complied he then screamed "Put it back on!!"
We can't wait for more of the same as the season progresses.
