Amy Sarabi Wins Campbell Red Dress Challenge on Project Runway
The Campbell Soup Company and Campbell red dresses were featured on last Thursday's episode of Project Runway. The red dresses help raise awareness and funds for the American Heart Association's Go Red For Women movement. Campbell sponsored the Project Runway challenge as part of the company’s "AdDress Your Heart" campaign, which has enlisted top fashion designers for the last four years to create Campbell red dresses.
On the entertaining Project Runway episode designers were each asked to create Campbell red dresses. Heart disease survivors became runway models and served as inspiration for the competing designers. The winning designer was Amy Sarabi from Plano, Texas. Her silk red dress was worn by American Heart Association (AHA) ambassador Nadine Jenkins from East Orange, N.J.
Project Runway style consultant Tim Gunn said, "These women truly are role models and should be proud of all that they have accomplished in their fight against heart disease. They certainly 'make it work' on and off the runway."
Nadine Jenkins and Amy Sarabi will be joining Tim Gunn on the red carpet at the Woman's Day Red Dress Awards in New York City on February 10th, 2010. A limited edition replica of Sarabi's winning dress (pictured) is being sold here on ProjectRunway.com for $199. Proceeds from the sale will benefit the American Heart Association. The dress will also become part of the Campbell red dress collection joining creations by noted designers including Nicole Miller, Lisa Perry and Michael Vollbracht for Bill Blass.
2010 Golden Globes: Meryl Streep Wears Gown by Chris March
Project Runway's Chris March was thrilled to be asked to design Meryl Streep's evening gown for the Golden Globes Sunday night. Meryl looked amazing in the black gown which featured a belt and asymmetrical sleeves. She wore her hair in a classic updo with subtle eye makeup and crimson lips to really make the look pop. People has the scoop on how this collaboration came about:
The designer, who met the actress through her hair and makeup team, was called about a month ago to work on a design for Meryl's double-nomination at the Globes. "I wanted to faint!" Chris tells People about receiving the call. "I have always wanted to design something for someone like that, and it was a great and amazing opportunity." Soon thereafter, Chris met with Meryl to discuss his vision. "I liked the idea of putting a belt on an evening gown -- I think it gives [a gown] a modern twist. I sketched it out quickly and she really liked it," Chris says. And while Meryl might be one of the biggest stars in Tinseltown, Chris says meeting her was anything but intimidating. "She is the sweetest person you can imagine. She's very friendly and welcoming and I wasn't nervous at all."
After turning out Meryl's dress in under a month, all the hard work paid off when Chris watched the Julie & Julia star take the stage to receive her Golden Globe for best leading actress. "I almost had a heart attack when Colin Farrell read her name. It was very exciting to see her come up on stage wearing a dress that I made with my own two hands," says Chris. "I thought it made her look tall and thin and comfortable and confident. It looked great!"
We adore Meryl and think she looked stunning. Perhaps Chris will whip up another fabulous gown for Meryl to wear at the Oscars.
Season Seven of Project Runway will premiere on Lifetime next Thursday, January 14, 2010. Lifetime has released this short teaser of the upcoming premiere. Tim Gunn seems very concerned about some of the designers finishing their work on time. Take a look:

Video: Laura Bennett Talks Runway Trends on a Budget
Architect and fashion designer Laura Bennett had some of the most elegant evening designs ever seen on Project Runway (she came in second to Jeffrey Sebelia). Laura appeared on The Today Show to discuss how to incorporate hot runway trends into your look without breaking the bank or looking too over the top. Laura talks about how to wear the big shoulders look without looking like you're been wearing the same jacket since the 80s, and discusses other hot trends. Take a look:
Varietyreports that the Weinstein Co. has teamed with Atari to create a Project Runway video game for the Wii. Players will compete as aspiring fashion designers in different challenges. Players can even become the model and strut down the runway using the Wii Balance Board. The Wii Balance Board is a controller used with the Wii Fit games.
The game will largely follow of the format of the TV show, with players competing as aspiring fashion designers and presented with different challenges as they create designs and outfit models with hair, makeup and accessories. Players can then become the model and strut their creations down the runway using the Wii Balance Board or take on the role of a fashion photographer and document their designs.
Co-chairman Harvey Weinstein said the game will allow fans to "participate in the program they love by using this new medium as a tool to explore their creativity."
It sounds somewhat like a fashion version of the popular Rock Band and Guitar Hero games. Those game franchises are very popular. A Project Runway game sounds like it will be more complex than the music games but the developers will just have to make it work. Variety says Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn are expected to have input in the video game.
27-year-old New York designer Irina Shabayeva won the Macy's INC challenge on Project Runway. The win gave her the opportunity to design a holiday dress for Macy's INC International Concepts brand. The dress pictured above, modeled by Katie Sticksel, is Irina Shabayeva's new design for INC International Concepts, which will be available exclusively at select Macy's and on macys.com in early December.
Irina's butterfly-embellished holiday dress is a contemporary take on the little black dress. The dress made of rayon matte jersey will retail for $139.00. More information about the dress can be found at macys.com/projectrunway.
Designer Dyed Winning Neoprene Project Runway Dress in Toilet
Talk about making it work. Peoplereports that Tim Gunn has revealed designer Ra'mon-Lawrence Coleman, dyed his winning neoprene avant garde dress from the surfwear episode (Season 6, Episode 3) in the toilet.
"What the audience didn't see is me going into the men's room, saying to Ra'mon, would you please get that neoprene thing out of the toilet? If you're going to dye it, dye it in the sink. It's more hygienic."
Apparently Ra'mon wanted a deeper basin to dye the garment, so he resorted to the deepest dish of water he had.
So how did Gunn convince him to use less murky waters? "I just said, you've got to get it out of there. Get it out. Out, out, out."
People says Tim Gunn also says the model was refusing to wear the dress, which is something they didn't show on Models of the Runway. Tim Gunn said, "It was one big hot mess, and his model was refusing to wear it because she knew it had been in the toilet. I had a showdown with her in the sewing room about how you’re a professional, this is what you have to do."
Season six of Project Runway is turning out to feature lots of great celebrity judges. Rachel Bilson joins Project Runway as a guest judge tonight for the "Rumble in the Runway" episode. Buddy TV says Tim Gunn introduces Rachel Bilson as a designer because of her Edie Rose for DKNY Jeans collection.
Nina Garcia Talks About Her Style Strategy and Project Runway
Nina Garcia talked to Barnes and Noble about her new book, The Style Strategy. This is Nina's third book, after The Little Black Book of Style and The One Hundred. Nina is a new mom and she talks about getting good value when buying clothes and avoiding impulse buys which you'll hate later. She also talks about how prints are a mom's best friend and what it's really like on the Project Runway set. Nina's interview runs from the beginning of the show through the 5:40 mark. Take a look:
Lifetime Puts Full Episodes of Project Runway Online
Lifetime has wisely decided to provide full episodes of Project Runway online. The episodes will be posted every Saturday. Project Runway airs on Thursdays so this gives people who miss an episode a chance to see it before the next week's episode airs. This is something Bravo never did. You can watch the full episodes here.
So far Lifetime is doing everything right by Project Runway. We love the glamorous runway they created for Tim Gunn and Heidi Klum in the show's promo and ad campaign. The series premiere was highly entertaining. Season six appears to have a number of skilled designers. They also picked a group with widely ranging skills and personalites. The model version of the hit reality show, Models of the Runway, is also fun to watch and opens up a whole new world for fans of the show to enjoy. Full episodes of Models of the Runway are available online on Mylifetime.com as well.
Daniel Vosovic Wins Project Runway's All Star Challenge
28-year-old designer Daniel Vosovic was named the winner of Lifetime Television's entertaining two-hour special, Project Runway: All Star Challenge. The challenge brought back fan favorites Chris March, Jeffrey Sebelia, Korto Momolu, Mychael Knight, Santino Rice, Sweet P Vaughn, Uli Herzner and Daniel Vosovic. The contestants each had to create a three collection look. There was also a Project Runway surprise fourth piece that involved using materials found inside a restaurant.
The judges liked the collections created by Sweet P, Chris March, Korto Momolu and Daniel Vosovic the most. Chris March teared up at being one of the four finalist. It meant a lot to him as a costume designer to be considered one of the top four in such a strong group of designers. In the end it came down to Korto and Daniel with Daniel getting the win. Judge Michael Kors raved about Daniel's sporty, stylish collection.
Vosovic won a $100,000 cash prize furnished by L'Oreal Paris and Garnier Fructis as well as the bragging rights as the Project Runway: All-Star Challenge winner. Vosovic, season two runner-up, will unveil his first collection during New York Fashion Week in February 2010. He also recently published a fashion photography book called Fashion Inside Out.
Tim Gunn Talks Project Runway, The Fashion Show and Being a Superhero
Tim Gunn appeared on The Daily Show With Jon Stewart to discuss the premiere of Project Runway and his new life as a Marvel comics superhero who fights crimes against fashion. Tim says it was too painful for him to watch Bravo's The Fashion Show (the channel's replacement for Project Runway), but Jon assured him that it was truly awful. Tim talks about how shocking it is for a New Yorker who is used to actual weather to live in Los Angeles. Tim is very funny, and apparently John Stewart's mother is a huge fan of Project Runway. Take a look:
Peoplereports that actress Nicole Kidman will appear in the Project Runway: All-Star Challenge that airs August 20th. The two-hour special premieres Thursday, August 20th at 8PM ET/PT and will be followed by the premiere of the sixth season of Project Runway. At stake for the returning designers are bragging rights and a $100,000 cash prize.
Heidi Klum, Michael Kors and Nina Garcia will be the judges in the All-Star show. Here is a list of the designers competing in Project Runway: All-Star Challenge:
Video: Tim Gunn Talks Earthquakes, Project Runway and Crimes Against Fashion
Tim Gunn appeared on The Jimmy Fallon Show to talk about the upcoming season of Project Runway and he was just as fabulous and entertaining as he always is. Tim talked about the move to Lifetime, his time in California and how he fell in love with Ralph's grocery store, which he siad is more like a grocery store museum than anything else (they don't have big supermarkets in New York City, where Tim lives). When they discussed the appropriate fit of a suit, Tim and Jimmy really bonded. In fact, Jimmy said he was noticing some chemistry between them. They then commiserated over the "greatest crime ever committed against fashion: Crocs." Take a look:
