Hilton Group Head for Mecca

Hilton Worldwide is expanding in the Middle East. The hotel chain is planning on opening more hotels in Mecca to take advantage of all the religious tourists needing a place to stay. Mecca is the birthplace of Islam and many Muslims make religious pilgrimages there. But accommodations in Saudi Arabia are insufficient for the traffic, according to Hilton.
"We don't have enough of a supply of hotel rooms," Shuja Zaidi, Hilton's vice president of projects in Saudi Arabia, said in an interview in Riyadh yesterday. "There is a tremendous amount of money going into Mecca."

Hoteliers and property developers are tapping new business opportunities in the Islamic holy cities of Mecca and Medina as the Saudi government seeks to accommodate more pilgrims. Saudi Arabia is building a $5.3 billion rail line that can transport 3 million people between the two cities and is expanding Jeddah international airport to handle 30 million passengers by 2012.

Over the next 10 years, developers and hotel companies will invest as much as 150 billion riyals ($40 billion) in Mecca, Zaidi said. Kingdom Holding Co., the investment company controlled by billionaire Prince Alwaleed, will open a five-star hotel with 1,000 rooms, restaurants and retail space.

Jabal Omar Development Co., a real-estate developer in Mecca, is building 27 hotels with a combined 15,000 rooms, with the first to open in 2011. There will be multiple Hilton properties there, Zaidi said. "Every major hotel brand in the world will be present in Jabal Omar,” Zaidi said. "Hilton is a small portion of that."
As Paris Hilton might say, religious tourism is huge. Hilton Worldwide was purchased by the Blackstone Group in 2007.

Paris Hilton is Supernatural

Photo of Paris Hilton

Paris Hilton guest starred on the CW hit Supernatural which follows the Winchester brothers as they fight demons, god and other assorted supernatural threats. In this episodes, the brothers are after a pagan god named Leshii who lures victims in by shape shifting into their idols, in this case Paris Hilton. By the time the boys meet up with Leshi, they are in big trouble. Paris is really quite good at comedy. Love the way she sharpens her nails on the scythe. She also has some biting commentary on the worship of celebrity. Great line: "You can't eat me. See, I'm not a Paris Hilton BFF. I've never even seen House of Wax." Jared Padalecki, who plays Sam Winchester on Supernatural, starred as Wade in House of Wax.

You can see a very funny clip here.

Paris Hilton to Make Guest Appearance on Supernatural

Paris Hilton Supernatural

Paris Hilton is going to be appearing on the October 8th episode of Supernatural. The episode is called, "Fallen Idols." Executive producer Sera Gamble told The Watcher that Paris Hilton will play the role of "a demonic creature that takes the form of... Paris Hilton."

The plot of a demon that takes the form of Paris Hilton sounds like a great idea. The Watcher has more photos from Paris Hilton's guest appearance here.

Paris Hilton Wins Pledge This Lawsuit

Paris Hilton has been cleared in a lawsuit that alleged she failed to properly promote a film she starred in called Pledge This!. The film's investors were seeking $8.3 million in damages. The BBC reports that the judge blamed the "inexperienced" producers for the film's box office failure. The judge also said, "Any causal connection between Ms Hilton's alleged breaches and the financial ruin of the film are wholly speculative."

The judge also said the film's producers sent "scattershot requests to their principal star in the hopes that she could find time to promote a sinking ship."

The BBC says Paris Hilton may still have to pay back some or all of her $1 million acting fees, which seems unfair if the film's failure was primarily the producers fault.

Paris Hilton Says Michael Jackson Named Daughter After Her

Reuters reports that Paris Hilton told Extra that Michael Jackson's 11-year-old daughter Paris is named after her. The Hilton family was close friends with Michael Jackson so it is possible. Paris says that Michael Jackson always loved the name Paris.
A month after the "Thriller" singer's sudden demise, socialite Paris Hilton has laid claim to being the inspiration behind the naming of Jackson's 11-year-old daughter.

Paris Hilton told celebrity TV show "Extra" that her family were close friends with Jackson. Her mother, Kathy, went to school with him for awhile in California "and they were best friends since they were 13."

"So I grew up knowing Michael very well and when he had his daughter, he always loved the name Paris and grew up being an uncle to me. So he asked my mom if it was okay, and of course she said 'yes' and I think she's such a beautiful little girl and I'm proud we have the same name," Hilton told Extra.

Paris Hilton Testifies in Sorority Movie Lawsuit

Pledge ThisParis Hilton testified in a federal court Friday to deny allegations in a civil suit that she failed to promote the sorority comedy Pledge This and that was why it bombed at the box office. Paris took the stand and said she did promote the film for two years before was released and at the premiere. She is being sued by the desperate receivers of a bankrupt entertainment company.
The trial is being heard by Chief U.S. District Judge Federico Moreno, who reacted with surprise when Hilton gave him a little wave before testifying. "I've never had a witness wave at me before," the judge cracked. At one point, Hilton was testifying about how full her schedule was during rehearsals for her next film, 2008's The Hottie & The Nottie, when Moreno interrupted.

"Was it better than this one?" the judge said, referring to Pledge This! . "It was really good," Hilton answered with a giggle. Along with the heels, Hilton wore an all-black sleeveless dress tied at the back and sported diamond rings and a bracelet. Testimony was expected to conclude Friday but it was unclear when Moreno would issue a ruling. If he finds Hilton breached her contract, a separate proceeding could be held to determine any damages.

The lawsuit was filed by attorney Michael Goldberg, a court-appointed receiver for a now-defunct entertainment company that was the major investor in Pledge This! The company, Worldwide Entertainment Group, was shut down as a $300 million Ponzi scheme by the Securities and Exchange Commission, and Goldberg is attempting to recoup losses for some 3,300 investors.

Goldberg said Friday he put up the final $600,000 from his receivership account to complete the movie in hopes that Hilton's promotion prowess would enable it to turn a profit. He said her unwillingness to do events after the premiere was the reason it lost money.
Oh for Pete's sake. The reason the movie bombed is because it was a terrible movie. No promotion in the world could have saved it. Besides, Paris always talks about her movies -- we remember her talking up this one before it premiered. After it was released, there wasn't much anyone could do to save it.

Celebrity Fashion Lines: Is the End Near?

For years, it seemed like every week there was a new celebrity launching a fashion line. Well that trend appears to be over, according to WWD. With the recession showing no signs of ending anytime soon, retailers are looking very closely at which lines they are willing to carry and they are making cuts. Celebrity brands just aren't selling like they used to, with some notable exceptions.
[Mandy] Moore closed her Mblem contemporary T-shirt line, [Paris] Hilton is seeking a new apparel licensee after an unsuccessful run with Dollhouse in the U.S., Anchor Blue shut down The Hills star Heidi Montag's Heidiwood line after just a year and Lauren Conrad closed her contemporary sportswear line in favor of developing a less expensive brand for Kohl's. Most recently, Lopez closed Sweetface along with all of her JLO by Jennifer Lopez apparel business in the U.S.

Celebrity apparel lines hit a peak a few years ago, and now that there are so many on the market, consumers are tired, said Jane Buckingham, who founded the research firm Youth Intelligence and left to start the Trendera consultancy. "They were feeling saturated with everyone having a line," she said. "It became not special anymore."

Although the public's interest in the famous remains, people "want to read about them and listen to their music. It's just that it's not about just one big celebrity anymore — it's all about a mix," Buckingham said. She said she sees more celebrities taking a backseat with their brands. "This is a generation of young people that has a little bit of humility, and they really don't like when people are self-obsessed," she said. "They like that Gwen's line is not all about Gwen [Stefani].
Experts say that celebrity lines that aren't named after the celebrity (like Gwen Stefani's L.A.M.B.) are doing better in the U.S. than those named directly after the celebrity (fragrance is an exception to this rule, they say). Paris Hilton's lines of shoes, bedding, lingerie and clothing all sell well in Europe. In the U.S., her shoes and fragrances sell very well, while her clothing line has faltered. As a result, executives may rename the U.S. clothing brands.

We'll say this for Paris: she really promotes her lines. We are so tired of reading about lawsuits against starlets and pop stars who sign on to "design" a jewelry line or fashion line and then get sued when they don't wear or promote the items. Paris actually wears her items and makes sure she gets photographed wearing them. She talks about her shoes, her fragrances and her latest ventures every time she's in front of a camera. That's one reason so many of her lines are doing well.
