Scarlett Johansson Handbag for Haiti


Actress Scarlett Johansson has designed a handbag to help raise funds for Oxfam's response to the Haiti earthquake. The print on the handbag represents the ancient cartography of Haiti. It contains the message "supporting the people of Haiti" and is signed by Scarlett.

Scarlett Johansson's Haiti handbag will be sold in all Mango stores worldwide. The selling price will be $29.90. Scarlett Johansson is also the face of Mango. You can see her recent Mango campaigns here and here.

Scarlett Johansson says, "I'm thrilled to be collaborating with Mango to promote conscious consumerism and to benefit Oxfam's Haiti Earthquake Response Fund. By purchasing this bag, which I specially designed, you are helping to provide life saving assistance like clean water to the people of Haiti."

Scarlett Johansson is the face of Magno's new Spring 2010 campaign. The photo shoot was shot by photographer Mario Sorrenti in New York City. Hairstyling and make-up was provided by Bob Recine and Stephane Marais.

Scarlett Johansson says, "I love working with MANGO. This is the third campaign I have done with them. The photographer, Mario Sorrenti, makes me feel very comfortable: the sessions are great fun. I see MANGO as a casual firm, with lots of combinations of garments, fresh and youthful."

Mango Cuts Deal With J.C. Penney

J.C. Penney has inked a deal with Spain's fast fashion company Mango. Penney's will be the exclusive department store retailer of Mango fashions in the U.S.
The deal, announced by the companies on Tuesday, will help Mango strengthen its presence in the United States, where it has 12 stores. Targeting women ages 18 to 40, Mango operates 1,300 stores worldwide. Fast fashion refers to affordable clothing collections that are designed, made and marketed quickly then replaced by a new collection.

Each Mango store within a J.C. Penney will take up about 1,000 square foot of space and serve as the anchor for a modern merchandise area within the store.
Scarlett Johansson is the face of Mango, but it's unclear if she'll be attending the launch of the Mango specialty stores inside 75 J.C. Penney locations across the U.S.

Actress Scarlett Johansson became the new face of Mango when she took over the campaign from Penelope Cruz earlier this year. The latest campaign is an 80s inspired campaign shot by photographer Mario Sorrenti. Mango says it accentuated shoulder lines on suit jackets and outer garments in its latest collection.
This season, we are adding clear 1980s influences to its collection. Shoulder lines are accentuated on suit jackets and outer garments, while the silhouette becomes narrower in lower garments. Therefore, emphasis is placed on slim-fit trousers, biker trousers, leggings and pencil skirts.

Mango is Hot in Tehran

Mango Penelope CruzBloomberg reports that Mango, a Spanish fashion brand, is a hit in Tehran. Mango's jeans and t-shirts have been selling very well since the Tehran store debuted last month.
The nation’s first Mango opened a month ago in central Tehran, and three visits to the store since then found the aisles crowded. The shop may "quickly" become profitable, said Jose Gomez, the retailer’s head of business development.

"It's like the promised land for retail," Gomez said in an interview. He said Mango's same-store Middle East sales growth has risen more than 10 percent for the past five years.

Mango joins Benetton SpA as one of few European clothiers in Iran, attracted by a youthful, growing population of 70 million. The Iranian market offers particular risks. Besides low oil prices, which may weigh on the economy, one of Benetton’s stores was damaged in a protest last year, and wearing a Mango mini-skirt in public is grounds for being arrested.
Mango's strong sales come despite the fact that Bloomberg says "wearing a Mango mini-skirt in public is grounds for being arrested" in Iran. There are plenty of people in Iran who want to wear the latest fashion. Benetton SpA also has stores in the country but did have a store damaged last year in a protest when burning material was thrown at a store window. Benetton says its sales are up in Iran as well.

Mango is bullish on Iran. Bloomberg says Mango plans to open nine other stores in Iran over the next five years. Penelop Cruz designs a Mango range with her sister Monica. She also models Mango clothes for the Mango's latest ad campaign.

Mango Expanding in the U.S.

Spanish fashion chain Mango is forging ahead with its expansion plans.
"In Chinese," said Rafael Ayash, country director for the U.S., "recession means opportunity." On Thursday, the company hosted a launch presentation for Adam, a new capsule collection of men's and women’s wear by designer Adam Lippes, at the Gramercy Park Hotel in New York.

The Spanish retailer entered the U.S. in 2006 and now operates 21 stores here. Around the world, there are over 1,200 Mango stores in 92 countries. So far, units are operating in Costa Mesa, Calif.; Chicago; Dallas; Los Angeles; McLean, Va.; Orlando; San Francisco, and Santa Monica. In November 2007, the company opened a flagship in SoHo at 561 Broadway. The stores are called MNG by Mango for trademark reasons in the U.S. market.

Ayash said two additional units are planned for New York City later this year. Although he would not disclose the locations, he said one is slated to open in August and the second in September. Ayash admitted Mango hasn't been immune to the recession in the U.S. "If I told you we didn't go down [in sales], I'd be lying," he said. "But we're new here and our positioning and market share are the main things for us."
