Hilary Duff covers the December-January, 2010 issue of Nylon magazine. In the interview, she talks about her clothing line, her close relationship with her mom and her fame.
Her clothing line, Femme for DKNY Jeans: "I got to bring in textures that I loved and tell them about the shapes that I like. I designed clothing that I feel are staples for my closet. I think that's really helpful to girls who need to know they can mix high-end with low-end, and you don't have to buy a complete outfit the way it's shown in the store. Every girl needs a great leather jacket, and every girl needs a skinny pair of black jeans."
On her close bond with her mother: "My mom is rad. I feel I'm so much like her. I don't know if it's wrong to drop an F-bomb in the same sentence as your mother, but I'm so fucking lucky to have my mom. She's just taught me so much and given me so much, and she has such an open heart."
On the experience of fame: "I walked into a mall one day and was mobbed by people. And I just remember feeling really different than everyone else. I felt really loved. But it was weird at the same time. I don't necessarily like to walk into a place and be recognized."
Hilary Duff Goes to Columbia for Blessings in a Backpack Charity

They bring the backpacks back on Monday and then send them home again with more food for the next week. Take a look:
Hilary Duff's first ad for DKNY Femme is out. Femme is Hilary Duff's second clothing collection. Her first line was Stuff by Hilary Duff. The Insider reports that prices for Hilary's DKNY Femme line will range from $39 to $129.
The line is pretty much what Hilary likes to wear herself. Hilary's love of poppies, sequins, and shine mixed with edgier things like vinyl, menswear fabrics and motorcycle details - that's what Femme for DKNY Jeans is about.
The line that's set to hit stores some time soon includes sweater tunics with removable cowl scarves, tees with detachable and printed necklaces, charmeuse cozies that layer like scarves, skinny jeans with adjustable belt loops for thin or wide belts. Prices range from $39 for a tshirt to $129 for outerwear.
"It's not only jeans," the 21 yo singer/actress/designer said. "We did little jackets and tops and a few dresses and big cowl neck scarves, which is really fun."
In February, it was reported that DKNY Femme will hit stores in August.
Michael Ausiello reports for EW that Hilary Duff is joining cast of Gossip Girl. She will play a movie star who enrolls at NYU.
The actress-designer-pop chanteuse will play Olivia Burke, a movie star who enrolls at NYU in search of a traditional college experience. She ends up rooming with Vanessa (Jessica Szohr) so it's safe to say she'll be majoring in Drama!
Duff will debut in this season's fourth episode, slated to air Oct. 5.
Gossip producers spotted an opening in Duff's schedule after NBC passed on her comedy pilot Barely Legal.
Hilary Duff's addition to the cast should help give Gossip Girl a big ratings boost.
Hilary Duff says she had a blast working on the set of Ghost Whisperer with Jennifer Love Hewitt. She says she even did some of her own stunts, which included hanging from a pole fifty feet above the street. Here's some scenes from the episode which will air on April 10th. Take a look:
Hilary Duff has partnered with DKNY - a Liz Clairborne brand - for a new fashion line. WWD says Hilary Duff found coming up with a name was one of the hardest parts about launching the line. In the end she chose Femme. Hilary Duff also had a fashion line launched several years ago called Stuff by Hilary Duff that is being phased out.
"One of the hardest things is to come up with a name,” said Duff of her new line, which she was wearing: a gray fringe T-shirt, leggings and a vest. "But I think Femme works really well and explains the line perfectly as feminine but tough all at the same time. It's aggressive, but in a good way.”
This isn't the first time Duff had to come up with a name for her own fashion collection. Five years ago, as a teenager, she launched Stuff by Hilary Duff, which used to produce everything from T-shirts to bedsheets. That line is now being phased out and, with the exception of eyewear, there is no longer product on the market.
"I've lost interest in it, and I’m ready to move on and do other things," she explained of the line, which sold at retailers such as Target, J.C. Penney and Kohl's. "I feel like the brand was for younger girls, and I want to do things for girls my own age now."
The partnership with the Liz Claiborne Inc.-owned DKNY Jeans is a big move for Duff - one she plans to be involved in every step of the way. And while she isn't the first celebrity to partner with the company - Fall Out Boy Pete Wentz was first and actress Rachel Bilson was second - she's nonetheless dedicated to it.
Hilary Duff has lots of irons in the fire - actress, musician and now designer. So far she seems to be managing all three pretty well but when you spread yourself thin you can sometimes wind up in feuds.
Macy's, Lord & Taylor and Nordstrom will carry the jeans and prices will range from $19.50 for t-shirts to $64 for outerwear but the products won't ship to stores until August. Below are some sketches of Hilary Duff's Femme line from DKNY.
Faye Dunaway starred in the 1967 film Bonnie and Clyde with actor Warren Beatty. When Faye Dunaway heard that Hilary Duff is going to be playing Bonnie is a remake of the 1967 classic she said, "Couldn't they at least cast a real actress?"
Now Hilary Duff is hitting back at Faye Dunaway. In an interview with E's Michael Yo, Hilary said, "I think that my fans that are going to go see the movie don't even know who she is, so you know... I think it was a little unnecessary but I might be mad if I looked like that now too." Take a look:
Here's Hilary Duff's new video for "Reach Out", which premiered on MySpace Music. The song features rapper The Prophet and is the first single off her new Best of Hillary Duff album which will go on sale November 11th. Depeche Mode fans will recognize the guitar riff and the refrain ("Reach out and touch faith" -- Hilary says "Reach out and touch me") from the 1989 hit "Personal Jesus". Take a look:
You'll never look at Hilary Duff the same way after seeing her do the Scorpion Dance in the new film, War, Inc. The film also stars John Cusack. We're thinking that this is the hot new trend: why not try it out at your next party to impress your friends? What's the worst that could happen? Oh, right. You could die from a scorpion bite. The film opens in New York and Los Angeles on May 23, 2008 and we can't wait to see it. Take a look:
Hilary Duff now has her likeness immortalized in plastic by Mattel: she's now a Barbie doll.
The Red Carpet Glam Hilary Duff Doll, which presents the singer-actress in 12-inch form outfitted in a polka-dot dress with a red satin sash, arrives just in time for last-minute holiday shopping.
Not happy with the polka dots? Duff, who also designs, has fashioned other outfits for her little likeness, the Associated Press reports.
Jamie Wood, Mattel's vice president of Barbie marketing, said in a statement that Duff and Barbie are "great role models to girls and the perfect design duo.
"Not only are they two of the most stylish entertainers, actors and fashion designers, but they also show girls there are no limits to what they can do."
Earlier this week, Duff and former boyfriend, tattooed Good Charlotte singer Joel Madden – who split last month after nearly two-and-a-half years together – asked a judge to lift their request for a temporary restraining order against a celebrity photographer, after the paparazzo apologized.
The 19 year-old star is furious that Madden has taken up with Nicole Ritchie who Duff has branded a "skank." These are the justly-deserved rewards of always wearing panties in public: Disney still offers you contracts, moms will allow their daughters to see your movies -- and you get your own Barbie doll.
