The Fat Duck Reopens Following Mystery Illness
Celebrity British Chef Heston Blumenthal's restaurant The Fat Duck has reopened for business in Bray, England. The restaurant's famous dishes that include snail porridge and salmon poached with liquorice can now be served again. The BBC reports that the British Health Protection Agency was unable to identify the source of the outbreak that reportedly sickened over 400 diners.
The council and the Health Protection Agency said "no one source has been identified" but it was "safe to open".
Some test results have yet to come back but the chef said he was "delighted".
"I am delighted the Health Protection Agency and the local environmental health office have given us the all clear to open the restaurant," he added.
Media coverage of the mystery illness has brought more attention to the restaurant and Chef Heston Blumenthal than ever before. The AP quotes Richard Harden, co-editor of Harden's restaurant guides as saying, "Heston Blumenthal is the only U.K. chef who is, on a worldwide level, of any interest as a chef. My hunch is the 'no such thing as bad publicity' aspect of this will outweigh any negative."
