Zac Efron's hair was a little out of control when he first arrived on the Red Carpet. It might have been because of the rain. Sarah Palin Stuns Oprah With New Hairdo

Sarah Palin Curly Hair

Nellie Oleson Sarah Palin stunned Oprah Winfrey today by appearing with a totally different hairdo. Sarah opted for some corkscrew curls, the likes of which have not been seen since Nellie Oleson wreaked havoc on Laura Ingalls' life in Little House on the Prairie.
"Look at your hair!" Oprah blurted out, before finishing her introduction. "What did you do to your hair?" the normally unflappable Oprah finally asked.

"Do you like it?," Palin replied. "I tried to look like you." "Yes, I'm not used to you having that many curls," said Oprah. "It's kind of cute, but I was just surprised to see you pop up there with the curls. Great. What's the weather like in Wasilla today?
It is not a very flattering new look. For one thing, it makes her look older.

Sarah Palin talked to Oprah about her new job as a Fox commentator. She told Oprah she is going try to to return journalism back to what it is supposed to be. Sarah Palin said, "When I studied journalism, we learned all about the who, what, when, where and why of reporting. Just stating the facts. "I'll engage in that, kind of ratcheting back down to the simplicity of what journalism should be about: just the basics and letting the people decide what their opinion will be."

Sarah Palin also said she is keeping to the door open on her political future. She said, "I'm not closing any door that maybe I find open in the future. And, thankfully, the Fox Network has allowed me to keep that door open. Maybe [politics] is in my future, but in the meantime [I] just really look forward to being a part of the news cycle again."

2010 Golden Globes: Mo'Nique and Nicole Kidman

Photo of Monique and Nicole Kidman

Mo'Nique wore a strapless, gold Reem Acra gown, and accessorized with a 15 carat pave diamond circle link bracelet and pave diamond diamond knot drop earrings by Everlon. She didn't shave her legs, though, and playfully gave the photographers an eyeful by pulling up her gown on the red carpet. You can see that picture here. Mo'Nique told Barbara Walters once that she shaves under her arms, but says sometimes it's too much trouble to shave her legs and risk cuts and bandaids.

We say: honey, if you want that Oscar gold, it's time to head over to Bliss and get those legs waxed. Award season and hairy legs don't mix. And after that amazing and heartfelt acceptance speech, that Oscar nomination is looking quite likely. Andre Leon Talley is probably plotting a waxing session as we speak, eagerly wanting to erase from memory the infamous Jennifer Hudson Oscar bolero jacket disaster.

Nicole Kidman looked lovely in a peach satin Nina Ricci gown. She accessorized with fabulous diamonds. She wore a 19th century diamond bow brooch, a four carat antique cushion-cut drop diamond earrings and a 1920s diamond and platinum bracelet, all from Fred Leighton.

John Mackey Steps Down as Whole Foods Chairman of the Board, Stays on as CEO

John Mackey, Chairman and CEO of Whole Foods Market, Inc., is stepping down as chairman voluntarily. Shareholders have been pushing for the move, demanding that the chairman of the board and the CEO be two different people.
For years, governance experts have urged adoption of measures that would prohibit a company's CEO from serving as board chairman because of the influence executives wield over directors. Legislation was introduced this fall in Congress that would separate the positions of corporate chairman and chief executive as well as giving investors a greater say in how directors are elected to company boards.

*****

Mackey, who held the Whole Foods chairman title since the high-end grocery chain started in 1978, will remain chief executive and a member of the board. Dr. John Elstrott, a director since 1995 and lead director since 2001, will become chairman as the company transfers the lead director's duties to that office.
Splitting the jobs of ceo and chairman of the boards is the latest corporate trend. Bank of Americna will split the two posts in April. The theory is that splitting the jobs will make corporations more honest and transparent.

New Trend: Grey Hair on Young Style Setters

The Times Online examines this year's hottest trend for young style setters: grey hair. It all started with Pixie Geldof, who sported grey locks back at the Elle Style Awards in February. Since then the granny look has been picked by London socialites and club kids.
Alex Brownsell and twins Sam and Lou Teasdale are, at the tender ages of 22 and 25, way ahead of their time. So far ahead of their time, in fact, that they have leapt the generations to join their grannies and gone grey -- by choice.

Yes, the colour wheel has finally twirled full circle. Growing numbers of women are no longer eschewing the very thought of grey, but embracing a gunmetal mane with pride -- and attitude. As Brownsell and the Teasdales prove, this is not only about silver foxettes going au naturel. This is a youth movement: from east London's cool set to models on the Paris catwalks, women are throwing the tonsorial rulebook out of the window and going with the grey. Even Victoria Beckham and Karen O of Yeah Yeah Yeahs are getting in on the act by letting their own silver strands peep through.

"We had all been blonde for a long time," says Brownsell, who tends the tresses of east London’s fast crowd, as well as the X Factor contestants and a few select A-list clients. (She could name-drop Keira Knightley, Alice Dellal and Little Boots.) "We became obsessed with it being as white as possible, a mania we called 'blonde-orexia'." Eventually, the fixation led to grey dye. "I really liked it, so, rather than bleaching it out, I kept it," she says. "I quite like looking like a granny. I dress a bit like one, too." Brownsell and her fellow hip hairdresser, Lou Teasdale, who run the beauty blog www.beautyisareligion.com, say that after summer's frenzy for full-on pink, yellow, orange or blue hair, an understated grey is directional, classy and perfect right now.

Pixie Geldof, another fan of the supernan look, agrees. "I'd been blonde for three years and fancied a change," she says. "I wasn't thinking about the colour, I just put on a bunch of toner one day, and there it was. It was rad. I didn't want to do another colour like pink, grey just seemed obvious."
Hilary Alexander of The Telegraph chatted with the celebs on the red carpet at the Elle Fashion Awards in North London back in February. She interviews Pixie Geldof, just after her Italian Vogue covershoot. You can get a good look at Pixie's grey locks. Take a look:

Scotland Yard Shuts Fraudulent Sites Selling Uggs and GHD Hair Straighteners

This is Money reports that Scotland Yard's e-crime unit shut down 1,200 scam websites that were selling counterfeit UGG boots and other products. Some of the sites also took orders but never delivered any products.
They offered shoppers designer goods including clothing and jewellery but would either provide counterfeit goods, or would take shoppers money and provide no goods at all.

Experts at Scotland Yard's e-crime unit have been monitoring the sites and today shut down 1,219 websites working under the codename Operation Papworth.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said the sites offered items including trendy Ugg boots and GHD hair straighteners as well as jewellery from Tiffany & Co and Links of London.
A Wall Street Journal story about the closed scam sites says the were listed as .co.uk domains but were run out of Asia. The article says the Scotland Yard seized the URLs of the scam websites but they are likely to pop again as owners of the scam sites use alternative domain listings.

WSJ Asks: Are the New Barbies Black Enough?

Photo of So In Style Barbie dollsAnn Zimmerman of The Wall Street Journal asks the question: "Are the New Barbies Black Enough?" She's referring to the new So in Style doll line by Mattel which offers several black dolls in a variety of skin shades and hairstyles. The company went to a lot of trouble to solicit input from black women on the look of the dolls, which have a variety of skins shades. But the criticism continues.
Now, despite the company's efforts to solicit input from a group of high-profile black women, including Cookie Johnson, wife of former basketball star Magic Johnson, some parents are saying the dolls aren't black enough. They complain that five of the six dolls feature fine-textured, waist-length hair; half of them have blue or green eyes. Moreover, all have the freakishly skinny body of a Barbie (something that irks some white parents as well).

"I thought it was unfortunate that once again we're given a doll with hair that is so unlike the vast majority of black women," says Cheryl Nelson-Grimes, the mother of a 7-year-old girl and a resident of Queens, N.Y. "I feel very strongly that I want my daughter to love herself for who she is and not believe that using a hot comb or straightening her hair is the only way to be beautiful." Still, her daughter Noni says that Grace, her doll from the new Mattel line, is her favorite "because she looks like me. She has black hair and has a ponytail."

The criticism over Mattel's new black fashion dolls underscores how difficult it is for large commercial companies to please a widely diverse black community with a single image or two depicting young African-Americans. "If they had given the dolls short, kinky hair or an Afro, people might have complained that it was too Afro-centric," says Nicole Coles, a 40-year-old mother from Temecula, Calif. "We're so hard and picky."
Mattel is listening to the complaints. In Fall of 2010 the line will be expanded. At least one doll with have a Afro hairstyle. The designer of the So In Style line Stacey McBride-Irby said she created the line so that her own 6 year-old daughter could have dolls that looked like her. McBride-Irby says that she loved playing with dolls that have long hair, so she wanted the dolls to have hair that girls could braid or curl or put in a ponytail.

She also gave the Barbies little sisters to encourage mentoring and made sure to make the dolls well-rounded in their interests in life. On the side of box their interests are listed as "science, cheerleading, art, journalism, math and music."
