Shirley Manson Joins No Doubt on Stage

Shirley Manson of Garbage joined Gwen Stefani and No Doubt on stage for a rousing performance of "Stand and Deliver" in Los Angeles Tuesday night. Shirley is getting back into music after a very difficult year in which her mother was diagnosed with dementia, she suffered the loss of several people who close to her and she underwent surgery herself. Her show Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles was canceled (infuriatingly enough, we loved that show), but we hear rumors she may be back on TV soon. Take a look:

Celebrity Fashion Lines: Is the End Near?

For years, it seemed like every week there was a new celebrity launching a fashion line. Well that trend appears to be over, according to WWD. With the recession showing no signs of ending anytime soon, retailers are looking very closely at which lines they are willing to carry and they are making cuts. Celebrity brands just aren't selling like they used to, with some notable exceptions.
[Mandy] Moore closed her Mblem contemporary T-shirt line, [Paris] Hilton is seeking a new apparel licensee after an unsuccessful run with Dollhouse in the U.S., Anchor Blue shut down The Hills star Heidi Montag's Heidiwood line after just a year and Lauren Conrad closed her contemporary sportswear line in favor of developing a less expensive brand for Kohl's. Most recently, Lopez closed Sweetface along with all of her JLO by Jennifer Lopez apparel business in the U.S.

Celebrity apparel lines hit a peak a few years ago, and now that there are so many on the market, consumers are tired, said Jane Buckingham, who founded the research firm Youth Intelligence and left to start the Trendera consultancy. "They were feeling saturated with everyone having a line," she said. "It became not special anymore."

Although the public's interest in the famous remains, people "want to read about them and listen to their music. It's just that it's not about just one big celebrity anymore — it's all about a mix," Buckingham said. She said she sees more celebrities taking a backseat with their brands. "This is a generation of young people that has a little bit of humility, and they really don't like when people are self-obsessed," she said. "They like that Gwen's line is not all about Gwen [Stefani].
Experts say that celebrity lines that aren't named after the celebrity (like Gwen Stefani's L.A.M.B.) are doing better in the U.S. than those named directly after the celebrity (fragrance is an exception to this rule, they say). Paris Hilton's lines of shoes, bedding, lingerie and clothing all sell well in Europe. In the U.S., her shoes and fragrances sell very well, while her clothing line has faltered. As a result, executives may rename the U.S. clothing brands.

We'll say this for Paris: she really promotes her lines. We are so tired of reading about lawsuits against starlets and pop stars who sign on to "design" a jewelry line or fashion line and then get sued when they don't wear or promote the items. Paris actually wears her items and makes sure she gets photographed wearing them. She talks about her shoes, her fragrances and her latest ventures every time she's in front of a camera. That's one reason so many of her lines are doing well.

Gwen Stefani Covers Elle Magazine

Photo of Gwen Stefani on the cover of Elle magazine

Gwen Stefani is on the cover of the new Elle magazine looking ready to rock the No Doubt summer tour. Gwen admitted that there was a bit of conflict when the band got back together. She also reveals that son Kingston has hit the terrible twos.
"Everybody's making it like there's all this tension, you know, like I stepped away from the band and now they're jealous of me, and look, maybe there is a little bit of that," she says. The band attempted to write a new record before going on tour, but were unable to come up with new material. Things came to a head one day when they were recording a cover of Adam and the Ants' "Stand and Deliver." She and bass player Tony Kanal got into "a heated conversation" over the track.

"But some fights aren't really what they seem," Gwen says. "I think it was a little about the song, and a little about our coming back together. There was this little air bubble that needed to pop, you know?"

At home, the singer faces other challenges with being a mom. "It's one thing when you have an infant," she says. "but when you have this two-or three-year-old going, 'Mommy, what's the deal?!' it's harder. Kingston's whole thing is, 'I need, I need.' He is insane right now. We're just hoping for the best and that he's not going to turn out to be a freak, but we'll see."
The issue hits newsstands on June 15th.

Harajuku Girls Get New Winter Outfits This Fall

Harajuku Snow Bunnies

The Harajuku girls are coming back this fall with new outfits. The girls will be dressed for the winter with snow and ski outfits. The fragrances will remain unchanged. Gwen Stefani told WWD that she "loved the idea of the girls going skiing, snowboarding, sledding and having hot chocolate."
“We brainstormed lots of ideas, but Snow Bunnies just felt and looked right, since it was coming out during the winter season,” said Stefani, noting the scents remain the same. “I loved the idea of the girls going skiing, snowboarding, sledding and having hot chocolate. Every season we create new versions of the girls, so you’ll always see lots of changes over time. One of my favorite things about this collection is that the possibilities are endless,” said Stefani. “The Harajuku Girls can go anywhere and be and do anything. We are always developing new artwork and graphics. The brand has an underlying sense of fun and whimsy and a Pop Art sensibility that is always evolving. Harajuku Lovers is like a never-ending art project!”
The Harajuku Lovers Snow Bunnies will be available in September in 10 ml for $30 each. There will also be a set available that retails for $100. More discussion of the Harajuku Snow Bunnies can be found here, here, here, here, here, here, here and here.

No Doubt to Guest Star on Gossip Girl

No Doubt will perform on Gossip Girl on May 11, before the band heads out on its reunion tour this summer.
On the heels of the announcement that Orange County's finest are reuniting for a summer 2009 tour, their first in five years, comes news of the band's appearance on teen-soap supreme Gossip Girl. What do we know? That they'll perform 1981 classic "Stand and Deliver" by Adam and the Ants (a band who wore makeup nearly as well as Stefani does).
It seems like an appropriate fit.

No Doubt to Perform at Bamboozle Festival in New York

No Doubt

Above is new photograph of No Doubt with lead singer Gwen Stefani. The band is working on their first new studio album in seven years. The BBC says tour plans were announced on the band's website.
Stefani said it would be "so inspiring to get out there and play all those songs again".

The group have not played live since 2004 and their last studio album was 2001's Rock Steady.

"I have cabin fever. Maybe we should play some shows or something," guitarist Tom Dumont said in the conversation.

Stefani answered: "I think we should go out now. I don't think we should wait. Pack up the babies and get a bunch of nannies."
No Doubt will be headlining day two of The Bamboozle Festival on May 3rd, 2009. Bamboozle, the largest music festival in New York, will take place the weekend of May 2nd and 3rd with Fall Out Boy headlining the Saturday night show.

Gwen Stefani and Zuma Sit For a Portrait

Photograph of Gwen Stefani and Zuma

Gwen Stefani released this absolutely adorable picture of her and Zuma Nesta Rock Rossdale, saying "Gwen, Gavin, Kingston and Zuma are all doing well and enjoying being a party of four." Little Zuma is just cuteness personified and Gwen looks gorgeous. We're so used to seeing her with her trademark red lips, that it surprised us how amazing she looks with a nude lip.

Gwen Stefani Designs Uniforms For W Hotels

Photo of uniforms designed by Gwen Stefani

Gwen Stefani is designing uniforms for W Hotels.
Starting this fall, female staff members at the luxe hotel chain's Gerber bars in the W lounges throughout the country will be outfitted in the custom L.A.M.B. design. And Gwen's touch is instantly apparent: the black jersey dresses combine a fitted '80s silhouette and asymmetrical styling with '60s seam detailing and side vents. When creating the design, she knew it would have to not just look good, but be functional for active employees. "I wanted to design a super cute dress that I would be excited to have in my own closet and approached it in the same way I think about my clothing for a tour," she says. "We've designed a sexy and comfortable outfit for these women to wear out on their own stage every night."
Gwen Stefani is like an unstoppable force of nature: rock star, mother, fashion designer, fragrance creator, shoe designer, Harajuku Girl. We feel exhausted just reading about it.

Gwen Stephani Rocks Fashion Week

Hollyscoop.com shows Gwen Stefani's collection for L.A.M.B. during fashion week. We like the collection, especially Gwen's dress. Little Kingston makes the perfect accessory for the ensemble. There's nothing like a cute mom taking a bow with her baby to warm the cold cockles of buyers' hearts. Her cute husband Gavin Rossdale was there too, lending moral support.

Gwen Stefani Signs Deal With Coty for New Fragrance Line

Photo of Gwen StefaniGwen Stefani has signed a global licensing deal with Coty Inc., the world's largest fragrance company. Gwen will develop and market a line of fragrances for her fashion and accessories brand, L.A.M.B.

"Creating a fragrance is one of the most prestigious things a designer can do," said Gwen Stefani. "For me it's like another thing you can wear and another thing I can creatively be a part of."

"Gwen Stefani is the perfect partner to create a new signature fragrance," said Bernd Beetz, CEO, Coty Inc. "Gwen's distinctive look, music and embrace of ethnic influences, coupled with her effervescent personality will make her fragrances highly appealing to a generation of women around the world who love her one-of-a-kind, international style."

"Women around the world will love L.A.M.B. fragrances," said Catherine Walsh, senior vice president, American Fragrances, Coty Prestige. "Like Gwen's highly acclaimed L.A.M.B. fashions and accessories, this will be no ordinary perfume; from the packaging to the bottle design to the distinctive scent itself, we will be working very closely with Gwen to ensure that her signature fragrance captures her rare spirit, style and warmth."

No one's talking about the financial terms of the deal, but you can bet Gwen's lawyers got her a sweet deal. Because she -- and her brand -- are smokin' hot right now.

The Gwen Stefani Baby Sling Controversy

Ever since that 4th of July weekend party at Brad Pitt's house, there has been an explosion of controversy over the way Angelina Jolie and Gwen Stefani have been carrying their infants. Both stars have been seen toting their bundles of joy around using a Rockin' Baby Ring Sling made by Rockingbabysling.com.

So what's controversial about a baby sling? Well, apparently in some photos pictures Gwen has the baby sling on backwards which is why it looks so awkward. The other controversy is whether the slings are the best way to carry an infant. Battling mommies either despise the slings and prefer a baby Bjorn-type carrier, or hate the baby Bjorn and believe that the sling is better for baby. We don't have a clue as to which is better for baby, but we do like the idea of having something that lets you carry around baby all day long. Babies like to be held and they certainly cry less when they're in contact with mommy on an outing. So naturally, we recommend that you list both on your Baby Shower Want List and then figure it out for yourself later.

Apparently Gwen has simply given up on the Baby Sling lately, opting for a Gucci Baby Carrier. You can see great pictures of Gwen (possibly incorrectly) using her Rockin' Baby Ring Sling in Orange Zebra/Brown Flowers at X-17.
