FedEx Expects to Deliver More Packages This Holiday Season
FedEx says it expects to move more than 50 million packages through its FedEx Express, FedEx Ground and FedEx Freight networks during the week of December 14, 2009, its busiest week of the year. On December 14 alone, FedEx expects to ship more than 13 million shipments, an increase of 1 million from 12 million packages on last year's busiest day of December 15, 2008.
Forrester Research, Inc. is projecting an 8 percent increase in online holiday sales compared with 2008. This increase means more packages for FedEx to deliver.

FedEx Profits Plunge 75%
The Wall Street Journal reports that FedEx plans to
cut $1 billion of costs in the coming year. The company's fiscal third-quarter net income plunged 75%. FedEx did not specificy exactly how it plans to cut costs but job cuts will be part of the $1 billion in cuts.
Meanwhile, FedEx posted net income for the quarter ended Feb. 28 of $97 million, or 31 cents a share, down from $393 million, or $1.26 a share, a year earlier. Revenue decreased 14% to $8.14 billion, hurt by reduced fuel surcharges and lower shipment weights.
Analysts expected earnings of 46 cents on revenue of $8.65 billion.
Operating margin at FedEx's express segment dropped to 0.9% from 6.9% as revenue fell 18% and average daily volume slid 5%. Daily volume at the ground segment rose 2% on continued growth in the FedEx Home Delivery service, as operating margin rose to 10.9% from 9.9%. The business was aided by last year's closing of competitor DHL.
Lower package volume during the recession is hurting Fedex. FedEx's revenues fell 14% in the company's third quarter.

Fedex Office to Offer Free Resume Printing on March 10th
Fedex Office is going to offer free resume printing on March 10th reports Reuters. Fedex Office will let customers print up to 25 free resumes on high-quality paper. Fedex Office was formerly called Fedex Kinkos. Fedex acquired Kinkos in 2004.
"We understand that the economy has affected many people in a very profound way, and we want to help," Brian Philips, president and CEO of FedEx Office, told Reuters. "In January, nearly 600,000 people found themselves out of work. I understand that in February, by the time they add up the numbers, it could be worse."
Philips, who said hard copy resumes have not fallen out of favor despite the growth of online job search sites, admitted that there is nothing to stop a job hunter from getting free resumes at more than one of its stores.
"We weren't worried so much about people going to multiple stores and gaming the system. We just want to make sure people have access to this service in a time of need."
You can find more details here on the Fedex website.
