Annenberg Diamond Sells at Christie's Auction for $7.7 Million
The Annenberg Diamond, a perfect D color gem of 32.01 carats, was sold for $7.7 million at a Christie's auction in New York today. The diamond is set in a platinum ring made by David Webb. NBC New York says the buyer of the diamond was not identified.
The Annenberg Diamond belonged to the late Leonore "Lee" Annenberg. Mrs. Annenberg was a passionate art collector and a philanthropist. Mrs. Annenberg and her husband, Walter H. Annenberg, left billions of dollars to institutions devoted to education and the arts. Mrs. Annenberg was also the U.S. chief of protocol during the Reagan administration. Rare Blue Diamond Fetches $9.5 Million in Sotheby's Auction
The BBC reports that the beautiful rare 7.03-ct. fancy vivid blue diamond (see photo here) found in Cullinan mine in South Africa last year has been auctioned for a record price. The diamond sold for 10.5 million Swiss francs, which is about $9.5 million. Auctioneer David Bennett said, "It is a new world record price for a blue diamond."
Loose Diamonds From U.S. Treasury Up For Auction March 20th
Hundreds of various sized loose diamonds from the U.S. Treasury will be auctioned off on March 20th in New york. Rick Levin & Associates, Inc. is part of a nation-wide team of companies led by VSE Corporation that was awarded a contract to support the U.S. Department of the Treasury seized and forfeited general property program.

A huge yellow diamond weighing over 102 karats will be put up for auction next month. The diamond's color is known as "fancy vivid yellow" in the jewelry trade says NECN. It is being auctioned in Hong Kong and is expected to bring in over $10 million. The diamond was found in Africa. You can see the diamond in the video below from MSNBC.
