Dalai Lama Weighs In On Tiger Woods Scandal

Dalai LamaThe Dalai Lama reportedly weighed in on the Tiger Woods scandal but only because he was asked. The Dalai Lama had no idea who Tiger Woods is - and he has no reason to know - but he said that when it comes to adultery "all religions have the same idea."

Tiger Woods mentioned turning towards Buddhism in his public statement on Friday. The Dalai Lama said self-discipline is one of Buddhism's highest values. He said, "I think mainly whether you call it Buddhism or another religion, self-discipline, that's important. Self-discipline with awareness of consequences."

The President met this morning at the White House with His Holiness the XIV Dalai Lama. The President stated his strong support for the preservation of Tibet’s unique religious, cultural and linguistic identity and the protection of human rights for Tibetans in the People’s Republic of China. The President commended the Dalai Lama's "Middle Way" approach, his commitment to nonviolence and his pursuit of dialogue with the Chinese government. The President stressed that he has consistently encouraged both sides to engage in direct dialogue to resolve differences and was pleased to hear about the recent resumption of talks. The President and the Dalai Lama agreed on the importance of a positive and cooperative relationship between the United States and China.

Hotel Creates Special Dalai Lama Latte

On Tuesday, the Dalai Lama led an audience of around 10,000 in prayer for the victims of Typhoon Morakot in Taiwan. In honor of the Dalai Lama's visit to Taiwan, the spiritual leader's hotel is offering a special, artist-created Dalai-themed cup of coffee. The 120 Taiwan dollar (3.65 U.S. dollars) lattes have been quite popular; the cafe has sold 120 lattes over two days and plans to continue selling them even after the Dalai Lama has left. After the latte is brewed, a barrista carefully and quickly sculpts a picture of the Dalai Lama in the foam. It's pretty cool. Take a look:
