Chumby Announces Chumby One Internet Clock Radio
Chumby has released the chumby one, a Wi-Fi connected Internet clock radio. The chumby one is a less expensive, more powerful plastic version of the original chumby, which is now called the Chumby Classic. The chumby one is available at the chumby store for the limited-time price of $99.95 through November (regular price $119.95). The chumby classic costs $199.95.
The new chumby one is based on technology similar to the original chumby device. New features for the chumby one include: ABS plastic casing rather than Italian leather, a battery option (using a standard rechargeable lithium ion battery), an FM radio tuner, and a volume knob. Like the classic, the chumby one offers more than 1,500 applications in 30 different categories.
Engadget has a hands-on review of the new chumby device here. Stephen Tomlin, CEO of chumby, says they are working with top electronics manufacturers on other chumby-powered devices.

Chumby Powered Devices Hit Stores This Fall
The Chumby is a type of interactive alarm clock that is powered by different widgets or apps. Forbes says that company behind the fun, interactive device are now licensing the software so it can be used in other gadgets. These "powered by Chumby" devices will hit stores in time for the holidays. One of the devices described in a Chumby powered picture frame.
"It's never been our great desire to be a hardware company; our expertise is software and user interface," says Tomlin. He prefers consumers think of Chumby as a content and media business, based on an ecosystem of widgets and third-party developers. His vision of Chumby's future centers on bringing that personal multimedia Web experience to as many connected consumer electronics as possible.
Several "powered by Chumby" gadgets will launch for the holiday season. The first offering will be a digital picture frame. Tomlin says Chumby and its hardware partner, who Tomlin declined to name, chose the category because it has wide appeal and few competitors. "Selling someone an LCD in a plastic frame with a memory card is not a compelling product," says Tomlin. "The challenge is to reinvent how to share photos and media."
It could be useful to have a digital picture frame that could display a clock or the weather or another kind of app.
