Video: Stars Walk the Red Carpet for the SAG Awards

The stars walked the red carpet for the Screen Actors Guild awards this evening in Los Angeles. There were a lot more short dresses than there were at the Golden Globes, although many actresses elected for full-length gowns. Anna Kendrick (Up in the Air) wore a purple silk chiffon gown by Alberta Ferretti. As she did at the Golden Globes, Kate Hudson wore white; she looked stunning in a backless Emilio Pucci gown. Kate accessorized with $1.75 million worth of Cartier diamond jewelry, including a beautiful tassel necklace. We adore Meryl Streep but her full-length silk Balenciaga dress was a disaster: it looked like something Michael Weston's mother on Burn Notice would have as curtains in her Florida bungalow. However, she did knock it out of the park with her jewelry choices; she wore emerald earrings and a platinum and diamond ring by Fred Leighton.

Penelope Cruz looked amazing in a black cocktail dress by L'Wren Scott. She accessorized with jewelry by Chopard. Carey Mulligan wore a crimson full-length gown by Lanvin and diamonds from Fred Leighton. Christina Applegate looked lovely in a blue silk chiffon gown with Swarovski crystals, designed by Roberto Cavalli. She accessorized with jewels by Lorraine Schwarz and wore her hair in an updo. Marion Cotillard went for a white, jeweled cocktail dress by Elie Saab Haute Couture. Marion accessorized with jewelry by Chopard, heels by Elie Saab and a clutch by Judith Leiber. Take a look:

Alex Woo Designs Tree of Life Pendant for Christina Applegate's Foundation

Christina Applegate Tree of Life

New York jeweler Alex Woo has designed a tree of life pendant to benefit actress Christina Applegate's foundation Right Action for Women, which helps women at increased risk for breast cancer get the information and testing they need to beat the disease.

"Since losing my mother to breast cancer when she was much too young, I have always been active in the fight against it," Woo said. "The opportunity to work with Christina to design a piece to benefit Right Action for Women was tremendous given the inspiration she has provided to millions of young women."

Christina Applegate said the design of the pendant recalled her own experiences in dealing with breast cancer.

"This piece reminds me so much of the roses I made out of ribbons for my friends and family while in the hospital," she said. "I am so grateful to Alex for creating such a beautiful piece to benefit Right Action for Women. Proceeds from the necklace will help women at high risk for breast cancer get the screenings and testing they need to beat this disease."

Woo's design signifies balance, peace and harmony in the shape of the tree and branches and also incorporates the feminine curves of a woman. Woo also added 7 leaves to represent each day of the week, as a reminder to live each day to it's very fullest.

Woo is donating net proceeds from the pendant to Christina Applegate's foundation Right Action for Women. The pendant retails for $198 in silver and $998 in 14-karat yellow gold. It can be purchased at alexwoo.com, select Bloomingdales locations, and other select stores nationwide.

Christina Applegate Samantha Who

Christina Applegate has reportedly joined Twitter to help save her show, Samantha Who?.
Earlier this week, it was announced that ABC canceled Christina's comedy due to economic reasons. The network was reportedly looking to cut $500,000 per episode. According to THR, to do that, the series’ producers were looking to add a third camera to its shoots, keeping the single-camera look but trimming its production schedule.
A petition to save the show can be found here.

Christina Applegate's Twitter account can be found here. She joins many other celebrities who have joined the microblogging service.

People Names the Most Beautiful People

People magazine announced its Most Beautiful People issue and that Christina Applegate is on the cover. Christina is beautiful on the inside and the outside, says the magazine and her courage in fighting a devastating breast cancer diagnosis makes her the clear winner as the cover girl. In a section called Barack's Beauties, there are winners in the White House including obvious ones like Michelle Obama, and less obvious picks such as Rahm Emanuel. Rahm Emanuel? Really? That's hilarious. Maybe the editor has a thing for hard-working, foul-mouthed politicos? He is going to be teased unmercifully for this "honor." Take a look:

Christina Applegate Says She's Cancer-Free Now

Photo of Christina ApplegateChristina Applegate will appear on Good Morning America tomorrow morning (Tuesday, August 19, 2008) to discuss her battle with breast cancer. She has some good news: she's now cancer-free.
I'm clear," the star of "Samantha Who?" said. "Absolutely 100 percent clear and clean. ... They got everything out so I'm definitely not going to die from breast cancer."

Applegate, who started getting mammograms six years ago after she turned 30, said the cancer was found through the second of two MRI tests as a follow-up from a biopsy she had last year. During the interview she laughs about her reaction to the initial diagnosis, but perhaps only to offset the fear she felt then. "I was so mad and I -- I just remember I was -- I was just shaking," she says.
We're so happy she's doing well. We'll tune in to see her talk about her experience.

Christina Applegate's PETA Appeal

Photo of christina Applegate Christina Applegate is the new face of PETA -- she's starring in an e-card which shoppers can send out asking people not to give fur for Christmas. Christina, who is a vegetarian, talked about why she supports PETA:
PETA: What prompted you to go vegetarian? Was there one incident?

Christina: I was eating lunch on the Married With Children set, and they served me some kind of meat (I don't even know the names of them all anymore because it's been so long). I looked down and there was blood on my plate, and it was that realization, that I can't eat something that has been alive, I just can't do it. So I stopped, and that was it. That was the last time.

PETA: Have you always had animals in your life?

Christina: Always, ever since I was a little girl, my house has been basically a zoo. Everything I have has dog hair on it, and that's just the way it is.

PETA: PETA does a lot of provocative things in order to keep people focused on important issues. How do you feel about that and about some of PETA's outrageous tactics?

Christina: I think it's great that you guys do that. I think that it's important -- sometimes you do have to shout out to be heard.

PETA: We hope your ad will encourage people not to buy fur as gifts during the holidays, which we think should be a time for compassion and empathy toward others. Is there anything you'd like to say to people, with that in mind?

Christina: They make really great synthetic fur -- you really don't need real fur. And it's cheaper, so why spend the money? The holidays are also a time when people freak out about their finances. If you don't want to spend the money, why not try some of the other options instead of killing a bunch of animals?
You can see the ecard here and you can see Christina on her new hit comedy Samantha Who? Mondays on ABC. And if that doesn't do it for you, you can read about how she once married another woman in Las Vegas. But she's not a lesbian. It's all very confusing.
