No More Free GM Vehicles for Tiger Woods

GM is ending its agreement with Tiger Woods that gave him free access to the company's vehicles, including Cadillacs. USA Today reports that GM officially ended the deal at of the end of 2009.
Even though Woods' endorsement contract for GM's Buick brand ended in 2008, Woods had been allowed to keep several vehicles, including the Cadillac SUV and reportedly a Buick Enclave crossover, for his personal use. But the agreement that allowed the world's richest professional golfer access to those new vehicles ended Dec. 31, said Buick spokeswoman Dayna Hart. The agreement was in place before the crash.
The Cadillac Escalade Tiger Woods crashed in his Florida neighborhood on November 27th was a GM vehicle.

Levi's Tops Annual Customer Satisfaction Survey

The new American Customer Satisfaction Report has some surprises for the fashion industry. The annual survey measures consumer satisfaction with various American brands, from cars to food to fashion. The recession appears to have changed brand loyalties of many consumers.

Topping the list is Levi's, which usually scores quite low on the list. Last year it was last, this year it is first in customer satisfaction, an honor it shared with Jones Apparel in a tie. Cadillac and Lexus tied for first in cars. In the food categories, Heinz, Quaker Oats, Hershey's and Mars took top honors. Consumers are very happy with American candy companies right now. WWD reports:
The response to Levi Strauss put it at 83 on the customer satisfaction meter, up 6.4 percent from 78 a year ago. That's just below Levi's all-time high of 84 in 1994 — and the first time the brand has held that much appeal for the 100,000 people polled annually about their buying habits in the 15 years since then. The satisfaction index is pegged to a baseline of 100.

The classic denim brand has been lifted, in part, by its optimistic, youthful, pioneering "Go Forth" marketing message, said spokeswoman Erica Archambault. "It is a reminder that Levi's are jeans of people who work hard, are self-reliant and independent." Also clicking with shoppers, Archambault said, are "innovative" finishes, such as Levi's "rips and repairs, destructed look."

*****

Like Levi Strauss, Liz Claiborne received its best customer reviews since 1994, advancing 3.8 percent to score an 82 (versus 84 in the first-ever index). Affordable offerings in Liz Claiborne's Kate Spade and Juicy Couture collections, as well as the addition of Isaac Mizrahi to design Liz Claiborne New York, led consumers to "see more value" in the company's apparel, Fornell said.
After Jones Apparel, Levi's and Liz Claiborne, the favored apparel list included Hanesbrands, VF Corp. (the owner of John Varvatos, Lee, Wrangler, Nautica and Majestic, and "All Others"). The survey shows that consumers are looking to established, trusted brands during the economic downturn. It also seems to indicate that Liz Claiborne's innovative moves such as hiring Isaac Mizrahi and Tim Gunn have greatly improved the brand's profile and image.

Cadillac Launching a Men's Fragrance

GM Cadillac Fragrance

Cadillac is launching a men's fragrance for its 100th anniversary. Notes in the fragrance include grapefruit, camomile, geranium, tarragon and cinnamon. The fragrance also includes sweet spice and incense.

The Star reports that Cadillac fragrance is part of men's line being launched this fall.
Beauty Contact Inc., a Dubai-based cosmetic company and holder of the fragrance licence, said yesterday it will launch the Cadillac line in stores this fall to mark the brand's 100th anniversary.

"Cadillac, the new fragrance for men is part of the recent Cadillac renaissance: Hot new products and redesigns that capture the mantra of life, liberty and the pursuit," said Alwyn Stephen, a Beauty Contact director.

"Our fragrance is a relevant extension of the Cadillac lifestyle."

The line includes a spray, aftershave lotion, deodorant stick, hair and body wash. Some products will come in translucent glass bottles with sleek metal caps. The retail price for a 100 millilitre bottle of the eau de toilette fragrance will be $73.
There are going to be a lot of people asking, so this is what the bailout was for? It is good the fragrance does not have the new car smell because that smell is reportedly dangerous.

Detroit Automakers Plug Electric Cars at Detroit Auto Show

Cadillac Converj

It's no secret that Detroit's big three automakers have been struggling. Everyone knows the automakers needed a government bailout - Neil Young even has a new song that mentions it. Detroit's automakers see electric cars as a salvation and several electric cars were introduced at the Detroit Auto Show. GM introduced a electric Cadillac concept car called the Converj (picture above). GM is also planning to launch the Chevy Volt in 2010. Ford announced plans for four electric vehicles by 2012 including an electric version of the Ford Fusion. Chrysler showed off an electric concept sedan dubbed the 200C.

The big three's rivals also continue to step up the pace. Toyota is upping the miles per gallon its Prius hybrid can get. Toyota says the 2010 Toyota Prius will be able to get 50 miles per gallon. A Chinese company named BYD already has electric cars on the road in China and plans to bring them to the United States soon. Jerry Garrett for The New York Times discusses the electric car slant at the Detroit Auto Show in the clip below. Take a look:

Beyonce Talks Weight Gain For New Role

Photo of Beyonce Beyonce discusses her weight gain so she could play legendary singer Etta James.
Beyonce reclaimed her bootylicious curves (and then some!) to play soul singer Etta James in the upcoming film Cadillac Records. "I gained almost 15 pounds to play the role," Beyoncé, 27, says in the November issue of In Style. "It was way easier - and tastier - than having to lose so much weight for Dreamgirls."

Her legendary role didn't only affect her figure, but it also rubbed off on her music. "Lyrically, it's deeper than what I've done before," the singer, who recently debuted two singles, says of her album due Nov. 18. "I wasn't mature enough or old enough, or in touch with myself enough, to do this type of album before. I didn't have the guts."
Cadillac Records will open in wide release on December 8, 2008.

Cadillacs Are Cool Again

Known as The Slade in the world of hip-hop the Cadillac Escalade is no longer the car people associate with older drivers. Recently the Cadillac has been seen in films like The Matrix Reloaded and Be Cool, starring John Travolta. The Cadillac was also seen in a recent Jennifer Lopez music video, "Love Don't Cost a Thing." Television ads featuring Led Zeppelin have also enhanced Cadillac's coolness factor. USA Today explains:
Decades before Lexus or Acura, Cadillac was the gold standard for American presidents, movie stars and titans of industry. But the 102-year-old brand fell on hard times in the 1980s and 1990s. The rollout of the Escalade three years ago enabled it to make a stylish splash in the world of $50,000-plus luxury SUVs. Ads by Chemistri in Troy, Mich., use Led Zeppelin to give a rock 'n' roll edge to the brand. But it was the unexpected embrace of Cadillac by pop culture icons that gave it the kind of buzz money can't buy.
The downside of being popular is it makes you more of a theft magnet. The Cadillac Escalade EXT was the most-stolen vehicle in 2004 and the standard (SUV) Cadillac Escalade was the third most-stolen vehicle. Apparently thieves love the vehicle's wheels most of all. Still, you have to like GM's defense. "While we regret any vehicle being stolen, this is clear evidence that the Cadillac Escalade is in high demand," General Motors said in a statement.
