Black Friday Should Have Good Deals on Plasma-TVs and Blu-ray Players

Panasonic 42inch Plasma TVThis Christmas could be a great time to buy a large plasma-tv. Crave is reporting that the Dealnews website is predicting the price for a 42-inch plasma-tv will fall to $499 on Black Friday.
The site predicts that plasma TV prices on Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving that kicks off the holiday buying spree, will fall to as low as $499 for a 42-inch model and $699 for a 50-incher. Meanwhile a $149 Blu-ray player may be in the offing, again from a no-name brand, along with $10 Blu-ray discs.

The upcoming DTV transition will help contribute to the price drops, according to the article, and as usual, plasma is less-expensive than LCD on an inch-for-inch basis. "LCD prices will remain higher than plasma, but they'll still dip considerably, with generic 42-inch 720p LCD HDTVs going for $599. Additionally, look for name-brand 46-inch or 47-inch 1080p LCD HDTVs to hit $799, and larger 52-inch 1080p HDTVs to drop to $1,199."
Dealnews also predicts Blu-ray players dropping down to $149 and 500GB USB 2.0 external hard drives for $49.

You can see the prediction from Dealnews here. Dealnews and CNET both note that last year prices actually fell below the Black Friday prices and the lowest prices were actually three weeks out from Christmas. You could see a similar trend this year if retailers have trouble moving products and get stuck with inventory. On the other hand, prices may not drop if retailers do not stock up much on inventory because they are expecting weak holiday sales.

That's a Panasonic Viera TH-42PX80U 42-Inch 720p Plasma HDTV pictured above. You can find it at Amazon where it is currently going for $824.00.
