Gemma Arterton Covers British GQ

Gemma Arterton British GQ April 2010 Cover

Actress Gemma Arterton covers the April 2010 issue of British GQ. Gemma is still getting lots of questions about her role in Quantum of Solace. That may change after this year, because Gemma has roles in two of this year's potential blockbusters, Clash of the Titans and Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time .

On Her Looks: "In comparison to many actresses, I think I'm really average. When I got the Bond film there was a big hoo-ha about me not being hot enough. I have to say I agree. I don't think I'm in that realm."

On Changing Her Look: "There are some really beautiful actresses, like Olga Kurylenko, who find it difficult. It's frustrating for her but she's so beautiful - you have to take that into consideration when you're casting her. Whereas I can change my look."

You can watch a behind-the-scenes video of the photoshoot here.

HTC Disagrees With Apple Patent Lawsuit

HTC TMobiel Pocket Pc Phone 2002

HTC Corporation announced today that it disagrees with the patent lawsuit Apple recently filed against it. HTC also released the above image of a T-Mobile Pocket PC Phone Edition by HTC. HTC says this was the first 3.5-inch color touch screen smartphone in the United States in 2002.

"HTC disagrees with Apple's actions and will fully defend itself. HTC strongly advocates intellectual property protection and will continue to respect other innovators and their technologies as we have always done, but we will continue to embrace competition through our own innovation as a healthy way for consumers to get the best mobile experience possible," said Peter Chou, chief executive officer, HTC Corporation. "From day one, HTC has focused on creating cutting-edge innovations that deliver unique value for people looking for a smartphone. In 1999 we started designing the XDA(i) and T-Mobile Pocket PC Phone Edition(ii), our first touch-screen smartphones, and they both shipped in 2002 with more than 50 additional HTC smartphone models shipping since then."

Video: Kristen Stewart Wears Pucci, Talks Fashion

E! chatted with Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning at the premiere for The Runaways. Kristen wore wearing a Pucci strapless minidress, with her hair in an updo and fuchsia lipstick. She looked fantastic. Kristen says she always has to have several wardrobe options before an event and she goes with what she feels. Kristen has had a difficult time with all the photoshoots, but she's getting more used to it, she says. She says she chose the Pucci dress because it's "funner," then laughed and quickly corrected herself to say it's "more fun." Oh relax, Kristen, we knew what you meant. She then had to give her very low-cut dress a good yank to make sure she didn't have a wardrobe malfunction. Take a look:

Video: Rob Pattinson and Emilie De Ravin at Remember Me Premiere

Robert Pattinson and Emilie De Ravin walk the red carpet for the Remember Me premiere at London's Leicester Square. Rob says that he's happy if the film Twilight helps indie films such as Remember Me and Kristen Stewart's new movie The Runaways do well against films with huge budgets like Alice in Wonderland, then he's quite happy. Unfortunately, Remember Me was one of the films that got crushed on its opening weekend by Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter. It made $8,089,139 domestically, but the per theater average of $3,657 is not bad. Take a look:

Actress Kristen Stewart is the newest star of Bluewater Productions' Fame series of biography comics coming in June.Writer Kim Sherman, who has also penned Bluewaters' Robert Pattinson entry in the series, thinks Stewart's versatility and talent might surprise readers who only know her as Bella.

"For Twilight fans, Kristen Stewart is a woman whom fans long to be and love to hate," Sherman said. "But Kristen has been in the public eye for years, and her career as a serious actor spans dozens of films over a 10-year period of time. My goal with this biography was to show readers the depth residing in this young woman and the roles she's beautifully tackled through a series of spot shots, pinups and word art."

AT&T Says Its Zero Charger Device Thwarts Vampire Power

ATT Zero Charger

Mobile phone chargers left plugged into a wall waste a small amount of electricity. This use of electricity is referred to as standby power or vampire power. AT&T is coming out with a new charger in May called the AT&T Zero Charger. AT&T says its new charger does not waste power when left plugged in, and improves charging efficiency when powering a device. The device will be sold at AT&T stores nationwide in May for $29.99. The charger will be sold in packaging with 100% recycled paper.

The charger should work with most AT&T phones. The Christian Science Monitor says it should work with the iPhone and Google Nexus One.

Gizmodo reports that Volt-Star is launching a competing product in April called the Zero Waste Eco Charger.

Marion Cotillard Accepts French Medal, Gets Stabbed by Culture Minister

Oscar winning actress Marion Cotillard attended the ceremony to receive the Chevalier of Arts and Letters in honor of her work in film. The ceremony was unintentionally quite dramatic. French Culture Minister Frederic Mitterand was attempting to pin the medal on her when he accidentally stabbed her. Onlookers said Mitterand pushed the pin through her blouse straight into her chest. Marion let out a little scream of pain, but recovered quickly. The Culture Minister was horrified and apologized profusely. We're thinking next time they should let Carla Bruni-Sarkozy be in charge of pinning on the medals. Tim Burton was also honored, but escaped unscathed. Take a look:

Wal-Mart to Double its Money Centers

Wal-Mart is doubling the number of its stores that will now offer banking services. Wal-Mart tried to obtain a bank charter, but failed and has given up on the idea of being a bank. But it doesn't need a bank charter to offer many of the services that its clients want.
The money centers cater to millions of the retailer's lower-income customers who don't have a bank account or significant relationships with a bank. The federal government estimates that the category accounts for one in four U.S. households.

***

Ms. Thompson described the money centers, which do three million to five million transactions a week, as "a very profitable part of our store," although the retailer didn't offer any specific numbers. Ms. Thompson said the centers are "getting way-above-average" comparable-unit growth and return on investment, because the units are cheap to put into stores.

The centers cash work and government checks, offer prepaid Visa debit cards that customers can load money onto for a $3 fee, and provide money-transfer and bill-payment services. Because it doesn't have a bank charter, Wal-Mart can't lend money and back deposits with a government guarantee, but the retailer has no plans to reapply for such a charter.
Wal-Mart calls its financial service centers "Money Centers." Soon there will be 1,500 of the Money Centers in the U.S. which will give Wal-Mart one of the U.S.' biggest financial presences. Opponents stopped the Wal-Mart bank charter not because of financial reasons, but because they believed that allowing Wal-Mart Bank to loan money and have FDIC insured accounts would make it too powerful. Wal-Mart gave up on being a U.S. bank, but did get a Mexican bank charter. It is called Banco Wal-Mart. CNN Money says it charges 75% interest on consumer loans; we really hope that is a typo.
