Alexander Wang's Rocco Bag Sells Out Quickly at Barneys
Alexander Wang wrote a report for Style.com about how quickly his Rocco bag sold out at Barneys. The Rocco bag already had a waiting list of 400 before it went on sale.
When I got to Barneys, I was welcomed with the news that our Rocco bag had a waiting list of 400-plus. By day's end, their entire Spring 2010 handbag order sold out with pre-buys-and that's before it will even hit the floor. Yikes! Good news, but now we're going to have to figure out how to produce more bags so our section won't be empty come January.
Barneys' listing of Alexander Wang handbags can be found here but there is not Rocco handbag among them. It certainly sounds like he needs to find a way to increase production.
Alexander Wang said he wanted a thoroughly American look for his Spring, 2010 collection that he showed at New York Fashion Week. He took classic sportswear garments and gave them a twist. There were gridiron-inspired leather caps, lots of khaki, white, bare midriffs (we're seeing a lot of that this week), knee socks, fleece and knits. It has a collegiate feel to it, but in a modern, updated way. There is also quite a bit of black, especially for a spring collection, which we love. Take a look:
Alexander Wang has launched his ecommerce shop at shop.alexanderwang.com. Style.com says the store carries Alexander Wang's complete line of handbags "including the elusive Coco mini duffel and Donna hobo." It also carries Alexander Wang's shoes and women's T by Alexander Wang online exclusives. Alexander Wang told Style.com that he loves the "idea of shopping in bed."
The online store is flash-based and doesn't let you view more than one item at a time. However, it does have a great zoom feature that gives you a very large close-up of the handbag or shoes you are viewing.

The designers involved include Stella McCartney, Derek Lam, Alexander Wang, Bottega Veneta, Rodarte, Rogan, Anne Demeulemeester and Versace. Pictured above is a denim coat and jumpsuit designed by Stella McCartney. Pictured below is a denim jacket and shorts designed by Alexander Wang.
The denim items are being auctioned on eBay here. The auctions end May 10th.
Opening Ceremony has opened its online store. Opening Ceremony's physical locations in New York and Los Angeles carry fashions from a different country each year. There's a description here of the stores on New York Magazine. The L.A. location has a big Hello Kitty house according to LAist.
At the new OpeningCeremony.us website Hello Kitty floats across the screen in a blimp. OpeningCeremony.us carries both men's and women's fashion. Some of the designers currently carried include Alexander Wang, Tsumori Chisato and G.V.G.V. There's a staff picks selection here, which is worth a look.
Young fashion designer and rising star Alexander Wang talks with Eric Wilson of The New York Times about how fashion is changing. Alex says that the days of everyone following a few trends every season are over. He says there will be many more options and stylemakers in the future and women will simply wear what makes them comfortable and makes them feel special. He creates gorgeous clothes: you can see some of them in the video, which was shot inside Barney's. Take a look:
