Starbucks Adding Powermat Wireless Charging Stations at Stores Nationwide
Starbucks is adding Powermat wireless charging stations in its stores nationwide. Customers will be able to charge up their mobile phones and tablets for free using the stations. The stations use Duracell Powermat chargers. Starbucks locations in the San Francisco Bay Area and Boston are the first to get the charging stations. The charging stations, called Powermat Spots, are located on counters and tables in the stores. Powermat has set up a website here that shows Powermat-enabled Starbucks locations. Starbucks says Teavana Fine Teas + Tea Bars will also get Powermat charging stations.
Adam Brotman, chief digital officer at Starbucks, says in a statement, "We are thrilled to offer our customers that next level of convenience with Powermat wireless charging. Rather than hunting around for an available power outlet, they can seamlessly charge their device while enjoying their favorite food or beverage offering right in our stores."
This should make Starbucks customers happy as the more places there are to charge up your mobile device the better. The Verge reports that the Powermat chargers employ the Qi charging standard.
