Sears to Let Customers Virtually Try on Clothes

Posted on September 25, 2008

Sears is going to be adding a virtual shopping experience to its website. The screenshot above is from My Virtual Model which is the technology Sears will be using. Shoppers will need to enter their height and measurements and upload a photo so the model on the screen will look like them. Once this information is added users can then use the avatar to virtually try on clothing.

Here are some features of the 3-D modeling software, which was designed by women.

The service is expected to debut on Sears on October 22nd. It sounds like it could be a useful way to try on different styles. It should give them a boost when it debuts as people head to Sears.com to try out the new technology. The technology will be powered by My Virtual Model. This site lets you build a virtual model that resembles you. You set the hair color, height, weight, bust size, waist size nose size and even whether your lips are "thinner" or "fuller." Once you have your model looking like you then you can start to try on different shirts, dresses, suits, shoes, pants, shorts and accessories. Hopefully, Sears.com will keep everyone's virtual measurements a safely guarded secret.
