Royal Caribbean Cruise Ship Returns to Florida Following Norovirus Outbreak
The norovirus is a fast spreading gastrointestinal illness that can really wreak havoc on cruise ships. Once it finds its way on the cruise ship (often through food or a sick employee) it is very easy for the virus to spread from person to person. The latest cruise ship to be hit by the nasty bug is the Vision of the Seas, a Royal Caribbean cruise ship. Over 100 passengers and three crew members fell ill with the norovirus. The ship is now back in South Florida, where it will be sanitized before embarking on a new - and hopefully norovirus-free - journey.
Now that the cruise is over the cruise line released a statement to ABC News vowing to completely decontaminate the ship. Royal Caribbean says, "During the sailing, we conduct enhanced cleaning on board the ship to help prevent the spread of the illness. Additionally, when Vision of the Seas arrived to Port Everglades, Fla., today, we conducted an extensive and thorough sanitizing onboard the ship and within the cruise terminal to help prevent any illness from affecting the subsequent sailing."
