Bloomberg is
reporting that Blockbuster, which is now owned by Dish, is looking to get into the smartphone business.
Bloomberg says Blockbuster wants to sell smartphones at its 850 remaining retail stores from carries including Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile. Blockbuster has already launched a mobile store on its website, under the name
Blockbuster Mobile.
This is a smart move by Blockbuster, but they do face a big branding hurdle as the retail chain is known for selling movies and video games and not smartphones or gadgets. Blockbuster should also consider selling tablets and accessories.
