Ranbaxy Shuts Down Production of Generic Lipitor; Pills are Contaminated With Shards of Glass

Indian pharmaceutical manufacturer Ranbaxy has recalled all of its generic Lipitor because ground glass has been found in the pills. If you or someone you know takes Atorvastatin, the generic of Lipitor, check the bottle to see who the maker is or call your pharmacist. If it is made by Ranbaxy then return the pills immediately to your pharmacy. Brand name Lipitor and Watson Pharmaceuticals which is Pfizer's authorized maker of the generic are freely available. David Kerley of ABC News looks into production problems at Ranbaxy, which has shut down all production of the drug because it can't figure out how the glass got in the pills. Even more disturbing is the fact that Ranbaxy refuses to tell the FDA where these pills are actually manufactured. It could be in China for all we know. Take a look:
