Price for First Class Stamp to Climb 3 Cents in January

The price for a first class stamp will rise 3 cents on January 26, 2014. This will increase postage need to mail a letter from 46 cents to 49 cents. It is a major 6.5% increase. The U.S. Postal Service has lost $5 billion so far this year. They lost $16 billion in 2012. The Washington Post reports that the Postal Regulatory Commission voted 2 to 1 in favor of the increase.

CNN reports that two cents of the three cent hike is intended to be temporary. However, it seems highly unlikely the price will be temporary. We would be shocked to see postage rates fall back down in the future.
