President Obama Throws Football in Photo Released on Super Bowl Sunday
President Obama can be seen throwing a football in this photograph released by The White House on Super Bowl Sunday. The photograph was taken by Pete Souza at Soldier Field in Chicago in May 2012. The White House shared the photo on Twitter with the caption, "Game day."
President Obama discussed football in a recent interview with the New Republic. The President is a big fan of the game, but he is concerned about the physical toll it takes on players.
President Obama said, "I'm a big football fan, but I have to tell you if I had a son, I'd have to think long and hard before I let him play football. And I think that those of us who love the sport are going to have to wrestle with the fact that it will probably change gradually to try to reduce some of the violence."
He also said he was more worried about college players than NFL players. He says NFL players "have a union, they're grown men, they can make some of these decisions on their own, and most of them are well-compensated for the violence they do to their bodies."
