President Obama Reveals Love of Skeet Shooting, WH Releases Photo of President Shooting a Rifle

Photo of President Barack Obama shooting skeet at Camp David

The White House released this photo today showing President Barack Obama firing a rifle at Camp David. The president has said he is fond of skeet shooting when he is at the presidential retreat at Camp David, Maryland. This photo was taken on Saturday, August 4, 2012 while the president shot at clay targets on the range.

In an interview with New Republic, Obama was asked if he had ever held a gun. He replied, "Yes, in fact, up at Camp David, we do skeet shooting all the time...Not the girls, but oftentimes guests of mine go up there. And I have a profound respect for the traditions of hunting that trace back in this country for generations. And I think those who dismiss that out of hand make a big mistake."

President Obama is due to give a speech about gun control next week. This is the only known photograph of him holding a gun. The fact that the president enjoys skeet shooting has come as a shock to some of his opponents. Rep. Marsha Blackburn, (R-Tenn) has now challenged the president to a skeet shooting contest. Senior White House Advisor David Plouffe joked on Twitter, "Attn skeet birthers. Make our day let the photoshop conspiracies begin!...Day made. The skeet birthers are out in full force in response to POTUS pic. Makes for most excellent, delusional reading. #whereistrump"
