Oscar Winner Philip Seymour Hoffman Dead of Apparent Heroin Overdose at 46

Oscar winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman has died today at the age of 46. Reports say that Hoffman was found in his home in New York, dead of an apparent heroin overdose. Hoffman was found on his bathroom floor after 11:30 this morning. Law enforcement officials confirmed to People that it was an apparent drug overdose, as Hoffman was found with a syringe in his arm with two clear envelopes of what appeared to be heroin lying nearby. There were also eight empty envelopes found by the police.

Fans were shocked when Hoffman entered rehab last May for heroin addiction. He said that he had been clean for 23 years, but fell off the wagon with prescription drugs. Eventually he began using heroin again. Hoffman is survived by his partner and their three young children.

His family issued this statement: "We are devastated by the loss of our beloved Phil and appreciate the outpouring of love and support we have received from everyone. This is a tragic and sudden loss and we ask that you respect our privacy during this time of grieving. Please keep Phil in your thoughts and prayers."
