NTSB Says Black Boxes Can Survive in Saltwater for Years

Satellite data analysis provided by British satellite firm Malaysian Airlines Flight 370 convinced Malaysian officials that Malaysian Airlines Flight 370 ended its flight over the southern Indian Ocean. It is assumed that the plane ran out of gas in the remote ocean and that there are no survivors. This announcement was made on March 24, 2014. Since then numerous objects have been spotted in the Indian Ocean but all of them have turned out to be objects other than plane parts, such as garbage and fishing equipment. If they can eventually find the plane debris and recover the black box the NTSB says they will be able to recover data from it. The black boxes can survive for years in saltwater. The black boxes from the Air France Flight 447 were not recovered until two years after the plane crashed. However, data from these black boxes was still recovered. Take a look:
