A growing number of mugshot websites gather booking photos from police department websites. These websites then attempt to charge people to have the mugshots removed. ABC Newsreports that the websites refuse to remove the mugshots even when the person in the mugshot can prove they were falsely accused. A big problem for people trying to have a mugshot removed is even if you get it removed from one site it may pop up on another.
Peter Aiken, a criminal defense attorney in Fort Myers, Fla, told ABC News, "Once something gets on the Internet, that booking photo, that mug shot photo, is going to haunt you for the rest of your life."
ABC News says a law moving through the Georgia legislature would make it crime to publish a mugshot and then try and charge to have it removed. Take a look:
