Michael Jackson's Catchy Dance Tune About Abortion Just Released
For the 25th anniversary of Michael Jackson's bestselling album Bad, the album has been digitally remastered and released with new, unreleased songs. One of the real shockers is a song called "Song Groove (Abortion Papers)" Written in the late 80s, the song tells the story of religious young girl who decides to have an abortion (perhaps a natural sequel to "Billie Jean"?)
According to The Atlantic, here's what Michael said about the song in the never published liner notes:
"I have to do it in a way so I don't offend girls who have gotten abortions or bring back guilt trips so it has to be done carefully....I have to really think about it."
The song certainly sound anti-choice, although Jackson's comments seem to indicate he didn't want to take a harsh, judgmental tone on the issue that his female fans wouldn't like.
Now, here's the really bizarre part: it's a great dance song. It's really, really catchy. We can see why the studio didn't release it -- we can't even imagine people wearing 80s clothing, dancing happily while singing "Those abortion papers!!" It's just mind-boggling to contemplate. As for "abortion papers" -- we have no clue what those are. Hee-Hee! Here are some of the lyrics:
Don't know the worst, she knows a atheist
What about God?
Living is all I see
What do you get, things she would say
What about love?
That's all I pray
Those abortion papers
Signed in your name against the words of God
Those abortion papers
Think about life, I'd like to have my child
(Chorus)
Those abortion papers
(Hee-Hee Hee Hee-Hee)
(Hee Hee-Hee Hee Hee-Hee)
Those abortion papers (Hee-Hee Hee Hee-Hee)
I'd like to have my child (Hee-Hee Hee Hee-Hee)
Those abortion papers (Hee-Hee Hee Hee-Hee)
(Hee-Hee Hee-Hee).
