Meningitis Outbreak Linked to Steroid Back Injections Sickens 35, Kills 5

A meningitis outbreak has sickened 35 people in six states. At least five people have died. The outbreak has been linked to steroid back injections. Fungus was found growing inside sealed containers of the steroid. CNN reports that the steroid, methylprednisolone acetate, was manufactured by New England Compounding Center (NECC) in Framingham Massachusetts. They have recalled the steroid and shut down production. However, there is concern that many more patients already injected with the steroid are at risk of getting the potentially deadly fungal infection. Take a look:
