Mariah Carey, Keith Urban and Nicki Minaj Discuss Their Approaches to Judging American Idol

American Idol returns tonight with new judges Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban. In this clip, the judges discuss their judging styles, what they are looking for and what scares them about being a judge. All three of them seem pretty concerned about destroying a young person's dreams. Mariah says that she had to find a way to give negative feedback without it gutting her. Keith says he's looking for that magical moment. He says when someone does something amazing, all four people on the panel can feel it immediately. Nicki says she must make sure her criticisms come from a "good place." All we could think about while watching this video is that Keith Urban really needs a new hairstylist. Take a look:
