Maria Sharapova Exits the U.S. Open Early, Loses to Flavia Pennetta

Maria Sharapova is out of the U.S. Open, after losing to 26th seed Flavia Pennetta of Italy in three sets, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. Maria had a terrible day. She had a dozen double-faults and 60 unforced errors. Serena Williams won her third-round match, 6-1, 7-6 (7-5) over fourth-seeded Victoria Azarenka.

In the men's division, Rafael Nadal, who is the number 2 seed advanced. One nice surprise was 22-year old American Donald Young's win over 14th seed Stanislas Wawrinka) 7-6, 3-6, 2-6, 6-3, 7-6. Young advanced to the third round. The AP reports:
