Malaysia Airlines Loses Contact With Jet Carrying 239 People

Malaysia Airlines has lost contact with a jet carrying 239 people. BBC News reports that there are fears the plane crashed in waters between Malaysia and Vietnam. Flight MH370 was scheduled to land at Beijing International Airport. The plane was a Boeing B777-200 aircraft. CNN's Richard Quest says the jet was at its "safest point" in flight when it went missing. It was the "cruise portion of the flight" which is much safer than the takeoff and landing portion.
Malaysia Airlines says in an update on Facebook that next-of-kin of passengers and crew are being notified. The plane was carrying 227 passengers (including 2 infants) and 12 crew members.
