Lupita Nyong'o and Gwendoline Christie Join Star Wars Cast
There is some huge and very exciting Star Wars casting news this morning: Oscar winner Lupita Nyong'o (12 Years a Slave) and Gwendoline Christie, who plays Brienne of Tarth on Game of Thrones have both joined the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII. We just could not be more excited.Of course, they haven't announced what roles they will play but Gwendoline certainly knows how to swing a sword from her role on Game of Thrones so surely swinging a light saber is in her future? Only time will tell if Lupita is already undergoing Jedi -- or Sith -- training.
Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy said in a statement, "I could not be more excited about Lupita and Gwendoline joining the cast of Episode VII. It's thrilling to see this extraordinarily talented ensemble taking shape."
The confirmed cast now consists of its two new additions plus previously announced cast members John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow will join the original stars of the Saga Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker. The film is being directed by J.J. Abrams and is expected to hit theaters on December 18, 2015.
Lupita is very excited to be able to talk about her exciting news. She posted on Twitter, "I can finally say it out loud and proud: I'm going to a galaxy far far away!" and instagrammed a huge Star Wars logo.
