LG Electronics announced that it has started taking pre-orders for its 55-inch OLED TV in South Korea. The TV costs $10,000 U.S. Deliveries in South Korea will begin next month. LG says it will announce sale dates for other markets at the 2013 CES.
LG's 55-inch WRGB OLED TV was awarded Best in Show at the 2012 CES. The TV is just 4 millimeters (0.16 inches) thin and weighs less than 22 pounds. LG says DisplaySearch estimates the OLED market will grow to 7.2 million units by 2016. The cost of OLED TVs is likely to drop as the devices go mass market and competition among manufacturers increases.
