Honda unveiled a new version of its ASIMO robot on Live with Kelly and Michael last week. The robot was first created in 2000. It will turn 14 in October. The new version of the robot is made from a magnesium alloy, plastic resin and other materials. It uses a rechargeable lithium ion battery and can run for about 40 minutes before needing to be recharged.
ASIMO could already walk, run, climb stairs, avoid objects and recognize human faces. Some of Honda's new abilities with the 2014 version include a faster running speed and the ability to hop and jump. It also has enhanced hand dexterity, including the ability to sign in both Japanese and American sign language. ASIMO can also balance on one foot.
