Debbie Sterling, a female engineer from Stanford University, founded the GoldieBlox
toy company in 2012. The company got a big boost after successfully raising
$150,000 on Kickstarter. The first toy out from the company, Goldie Blox and The Spinning Machine, is a book series and construction set that stars Goldie, a kid inventor. The set is designed to help build spatial skills and introduce basic engineering principles.
Debbie Sterling was the feature of an ABC News
story that explains how just 11% of engineers are women. She says wanted to put something in toy aisles for girls that is not about "just being pretty." Take a look:
