Globatrac Unveils Trakdot Luggage Tracker

Trakdot

Globatrac will unveil its Trakdot luggage tracker at the CES 2013. Globatrac says its tracker enables airline passengers to keep track of their luggage after it is checked-in using a mobile phone. The palm-sized tracker fits into a checked bag and reports city location in real time.

The device needs to be registered on the Trakdot website and then placed inside a checked bag. It will then deliver location information to a mobile phone or SMS device via text or email. The luggage can also be tracked on trakdot.com or via a Trackdot luggage app.

Ars Technica reports that the device is equipped with an accelerometer so it can sense speed and shut down when an airplane is taking off.

Trakdot will launch in March 2013. It will cost $49.95 with an activation fee of $8.99 and an annual service fee of $12.99.
