Galaxy Brand Holdings Buys Linens 'N Things From Gordon Brothers and Hilco

Galaxy Brand Holdings has purchased the Linens 'N Things assets from Gordon Borthers and Hilco. The Carlyle Group recently acquired a majority interest in Galaxy Brand Holdings.

Linens 'N Things was a major retailer of home goods with 571 stores before filing bankruptcy in 2008. The assets of Linens 'N Things were acquired in 2009 by Gordon Brothers, Hilco and other partners. A Linens 'N Things website has continued running at lnt.com, but no bricks-and-mortar stores have returned. Chain Store Age reports that the acquisition by Galaxy Brand Holdings could result in the return of a physical retail component from the home brand. A Wall Street Journal article says this may be more a store-within-a-store concept than standalone Linens 'N Things stores.

Abe M. Hidary, vice president of corporate development at Galaxy Brand Holdings, said in a press release, "Linens 'N Things enjoys a rich history of providing consumers with a broad assortment of high-quality, value-priced home products. We plan to leverage this heritage to connect with consumers by offering Linens 'N Things branded products, and by re-establishing the brand as a premier home destination both in-store and online."
